1962 Chevy Corvette: Red Dust

reddustcorvetter

Is there anything better than seeing a beautiful shape like this ’62 Corvette here on craigslist covered in barn dust? Well, the only thing better may be just how gorgeous this car is with the dust rinsed off. Discovered by Barn Finds reader Robert R, the seller of this Corvette claims it was owned by the same family since 1968 and has been relegated to storage for many years. It has a factory 4-speed manual with PosiTraction rear end and an OEM hardtop, making this one very well-optioned drop top. However, the engine is not original despite being described as “period correct”, which is sort of a let-down once you see how preserved the rest of the car is. The interior is likewise in stunning condition, so is the seller’s $39,500 ask a fair price, or too high for a car with a non-numbers matching engine?

It’s a stunner, but I think a ‘Vette fanatic would be put off by the “wrong” engine. That’s something that would be a near-impossibility to correct without a long, involved and expensive search. The “correct” engine could be anywhere, if it still exists….

For a little less, money, this would be a great car to clean up, make safe and roadable, and enjoy the daylights out of. On that basis, I’d love to have it.

My first question to the owner’s, not the flipper, would be: “what happened that made you quit driving it?”

I love this body style, particularly from behind, way nicer than the bloated beasts they became in the 70’s and 80’s. And while I love this body style, not this particular car: too much red!

I remember back in ’66 just out of HS and driving my future Brother in laws 62 silver corvette, w/ black interior he just put new Keystone Mags all away around, and was it ever a looker. I wish I had that car today, it was sold in late ’67 for down payment on a new ’68 GTO. I think it sold for $1200, makes a grown man wanna cry…

Gary, want to help me with my time machine? I’m building it big enough to bring back all kinds of classics; before they became valuable or objects of rust oxide. Think gone in 60 seconds, but I’ll buy them instead.

Oh yes, sign me up for the time machine like no other, just imagine all the beautiful muscle cars of yesteryear. If we could go back in time and know what we know now, I do not think you could build it big enough? Gone in 60 seconds would be multiplied several times over….

@Cassidy, You may have a problem trying to explain the dates on the Franklins. You would loose money if you tried to buy with gold at today’s rate of $1,500.00/oz.
You could go back in time and charge for rides to any where they wanted to go in your time machine to raise the correct dated cash to buy the cars.

    The heck with restorations!
I would go back and buy these cars off of the showroom floor and then flip them when I got them back at the peak in the prices…maybe around 2007.

Think BIG or stay home! LOL
