1968 Chevy Camaro RS/SS: Back From War

camaro1

The story is not a new one: an American Veteran returns from overseas and buys himself a true muscle car, both as a reward and as a reminder that the USA makes some pretty kick-butt machines. I recall an autocross I competed in two years ago with a modern-day reincarnation of this story, this time with a Veteran returning from Afghanistan who had bought himself a new Mustang GT – and both he and the car seemed thrilled to be united. I imagine the day was similar that the original owner of this 1968 Camaro RS/SS here on eBay purchased this car new from an upstate New York Chevy dealer, and optioned it like many enthusiasts would do today: 4-speed close-ratio manual transmission, 4.10 gears, positraction, upgraded stereo package, and of course, the 350 V8. Bidding is already up to $10,000 with the reserve unmet – how high do you think it will go?

It’s already over 11k… I honestly don’t know squat about restorations, but it seems to me that, considering the amount of work needed, 15k would seriously be pushing the envelope.

I bought a used 68 Camaro RS/SS convertible in 1971 with a 396/auto. I thought and I may be wrong because you could almost order a car anyway you wanted back then BUT I thought the RS was the trim package and the SS was strictly for the 396 v8 or larger v8’s. Correct me if I’m wrong as it’s been a while for this old timer.

I’m definitely no expert, but as Camaro enthusiast I can tell you the SS package could be ordered w/ a 350. Anyone with first-hand knowledge want to chime in?

RS (Rally Sport) was a trim package that could be ordered on any level of Camaro, and SS (Super Sport) was the engine/suspension upgrade, which could be ordered as a 350, or a 396. Just celebrated 37 years with my SS…

it truly is a unique Chev!! the body needs work with close ratio 4 speed and 410 gears, would say it has done some drag racing the interior won’t need much work great color combo as far as price, depends how high anyone is willing to go
