Better Hurry: 1966 Jaguar S-Type

jag

Yet another flipper that can’t be bothered to take the car off the trailer before picturing it, a pet peeve of mine. Nevertheless, it is my favorite Jaguar sedan, the S-Type, and fellow Barn Finds writer Jeff L knew that when he sent me the find. Someday I’ll own one, but not this one; it’s too far away in Spokane, Washington. The big cat is up for auction here on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $5,000. There’s not much time left, though, so if you want it you’d better hurry! There’s not much detail, other than that the car runs well but doesn’t stop and has some rust in the front. There’s a large amount of filler in the right rear, the wheels from a late XJ6, and there are so many detail things wrong that I haven’t got the room to list them all here. And I want it anyway. No, this isn’t the S-Type for me, but the fact that I can look at this car that is, in my opinion, overpriced greatly and consider it anyway tells me that this is an itch I will eventually have to scratch. What do you think this one’s really worth?

I dislike sellers like this also. The temptation to call them up, waste their time with a half hour of questions and then “oh, it does NOT come with the trailer? How am I supposed to get it home? No deal! (hangup) is nearly unbearable…

I too love the S-type. They drive nice and the 3.8 has plenty of umph. I agree, way over priced, I have seen this car on a couple of websites before, way too much rust repair for the value of the car, plus its the awkward RHD, its the sloppy automatic, and it doesn’t have wire wheels… doesn’t have much going for it… maybe $500 and they pay the shipping to FL ;)

What a sad thing that layer of green is over the red. Do you think there’s any chance the house paint they used will just peel off?

At least the flipper rescued this cat from storage so there’s a chance this grand old Jag will be driven and enjoyed again instead of rotting away for another 30 years. I would prefer he sell it off the trailer rather than trying to hide the faults with quickie repairs.

    So many Red Flags!

Not the least of which, that it looks like it’s parked in front of an abandoned house…

seller has 416 listings on ebay right now, mostly parts. i think seller is trying to save the cost of parting it out by listing it as a whole car first.

Someone once loved this car enough to pay to have it shipped from the UK. And it has been allowed to rot away. I recently bought a Peugeot 203 parts car that is a rust bucket. It has been sitting outside for years. It still has its foreign plates [which I can’t identify] on it. Someone paid to have it shipped to the US and never registered it. I don’t understand.

      Hi Mike,
Mayby I can help you if you can tell me the combination on the plates and colours of the letters/numbers and also of the plates. I’m from Holland and know lots of European plates, so let me know when interested!

Hi Olaf–I’ll try to upload a pic. For whatever reason, my pics never come through on this site. I don’t think it’s a European plate, I know those pretty well. It could be far eastern Europe. I’m guessing somewhere in the islands. If the pic doesn’t show, email me mharrel2009 at the popular spot that begins with a Y, and I can send you a pic that way.
