I’m having a problem with the site, again. It seems, I keep getting this message, “Shockwave has crashed, reload” and something about a “plugin not responding”.( I’m a total idiot when it comes to computers, so not sure what to do) Not to mention, when commenting, sometimes my computer freezes up, and I have to shut the whole thing down, and restart. I don’t have any issues with any other site. I’m tempted to become a member, just to avoid that, but defeats the purpose of a “free” site. Like Wikipedia asking for money. I don’t think I’m alone, we’re here because it’s free ( for the most part) Sorry, I enjoy the site, more than any other, but I hope I don’t have to become a “member” so as not to have that frustration. What say ye?

Hi Howard, sorry you are having problems with the ads. Let me assure you that we are not using ads to try to force you to buy a membership. Most people expect all online media to be free these days, so ads really are the only way we can pay the bills. We are a free-to-read site, but we are nothing like Wikipedia. They receive so much traffic that they are able to generate millions of dollars when they do fundraisers. They also have relatively low overhead because everything on the site is written by volunteers. We have two people working full-time and five people part-time. The website hosting and email services needed to run the site cost us a lot of money too. I know it’s easy to assume that Barn Finds is just run by a couple of guys in their time off, but it’s actually a very time consuming and expensive endeavor. In fact, it was in the red for the first few years there until we built up the readership. You are welcome to keep reading the site for free, but hopefully we can make it into something worth a couple of bucks a month to you. I bet you come here a lot more than you go to Wikipedia anyway. Thanks!

Thanks Jesse. You’re right, I want to help. This is the best site out here, I feel. Right now, I’m on a VERY limited income, and $108 dollars is still a lot of money to me.( I can eat for 3 weeks on that) $54 would be in the park, but just don’t have it now. Hopefully, the next couple of weeks will be better, and perhaps I can send you something soon, just not a hundred dollars. Don’t think for a second, what you do for us goes unappreciated. I’m sure most will agree, this is a lot of fun, and I’ll probably never buy anything, but the variety that comes through here, is unequaled, and it’s great to hear all the opinions. Got a lot of sharp people here. Oh, and I’ve made peace with the “thumbs down” thing. Let me just say, you “thumbs downers” can all cram it with walnuts! 🙂

The authors work hard for your enjoyment. Should they work for free? Thank you barn find group. Keep up the good work.

Good morning Howard, I am not trying to imply your a freeloader in any way. I still work at least 6 days a week and I’m glad I can. I have things paid up and this time next year the house payment will be GONE. I would like to do something nice for the holidays as long as it’s OK with you. G.P.

Hi G.P., Mahatma Gandhi said, ” The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful than a thousand heads bowing in prayer”. Thank-you. ( now, back to our regularly scheduled program)

We have received a few emails asking if memberships could be paid through PayPal and if they can be done on a monthly basis. If you would like either of those options, please email us at mail@barnfinds.com

    Thanks guys!

Hi G.P., now just a ding dang diddly minute, you don’t have to do that. I don’t mean to be a free loader ( although, technically, it’s not entirely free, as we do have to pay the internet provider) and for me, “prosperity is just around the corner”. ( trouble is I haven’t figured out which one) and a little cash poor,( on the cusp of SS) and if you read Jesse’s short description of Barn Finds in the membership schpeil, he admits, it’s become more of a “club” for us, to share views, discuss the past, and who knows, maybe find a car. ( I can’t believe this site posted my 1st car, the Volvo 444) I’m just a spoke in the wheel here, and that’s what’s cool about this site. Thanks. Have a safe holiday, all. Oh, 1 more thing, I wonder if they have considered a “PM” ( personal message) thing here. One of my trucker sites has that, and I’ve met some really cool people. Just an idea.

        Hi G.P.
Sorry we are just now getting back to you. Someone else actually beat you to the punch! I just finalized Howard’s account. Thanks for the willingness to do that, it really is amazing! That kind of charity and support is what makes this such an incredible community, so thanks for being a part of it! Happy Holidays from everyone here at BarnFinds!
        Josh

Thank you. I’m honored. While I’ll admit, some of my info is “regurgitated” from the internet, I enjoy looking those things up, and possibly someone, who doesn’t have the time will enjoy it too.( and maybe learn something. I learn stuff here all the time) My expertise comes in the form of trucks, and heavy equipment.( and the hundreds of older cars I’ve had) Spent my entire working life around them. If anybody needs any help, I love to try ( and I have an ace up my sleeve, in case I can’t answer something) and objectively. You don’t have to believe me if I think a car is not low mileage, I don’t gain anything from that, just my opinion. Again, thank you, and have a safe holiday season to all.

Well, I am kind of in the same financial boat as Howard. Only, I am a 61 year old construction journeyman that no one wants to take a chance on. Thankfully a little part time trucking keeps my computer on. I have had computer problems with this site as well. Why do I keep coming back? Because it is the best site out there. I will be giving thanks on Thanksgiving day with my Hungryman turkey tv dinner. And thanks to you people who do such a great job! When I hit the lotto you will be the first to know, take care. Mike.

Hi Mike, I see, misery loves company. I too, will be having a turkey sandwich from the deli. It’s just the way the “cards fell” and that’s just the way it is. Being a trucker all my life, it’s not unusual to be alone. I look forward to chatting with you, mostly for our instant rapport, not only for our Wisconsin connection, but we seem to be “in the same gear” on many issues. Not much happening in da’ Northwoods in the winter. And the entertainment this site provides, would probably cost us plenty to fill that void. I tried disabling the shockwave dealy bob on the “settings”, but it still comes up “plugin not responding”, “Shockwave has crashed”. I never know if it’s my computer ( heaven forbid) or just the site. I don’t have any trouble on any other site. Be fun to get together someday. I live just outside Phillips. On a recent visit to the Cities, I got to meet Scotty G. for a cup of coffee, and we had a nice time visiting. Take care, all. H

I live in Knapp WI., about 14 miles west of Menomonie. If your ever around, stop and say hi. There’s always hot coffee or cold beer.

My Brother is a snowbird out of Wausau in the summer. Next time I am up there I will give you a heads up. Glad you got to get together with Scotty G, I always enjoy his comments also. Enjoy your sandwich and Happy Thanksgiving to all! Mike.

I have updated the membership signup page so you can now either pay monthly or yearly. There’s also an option to use PayPal rather than credit card if desired. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Thanks guys!
