Where’s the “d”? It’s as if Plymouth thought they could move the car upscale and save a little emblem money at the same time? Anyway, I think this is a grand find! This low mileage car looks to be in terrific condition as it rests in Tampa, Florida. It’s listed for sale here on eBay, with a buy it now of $6,500, but the seller is willing to listen if you want to make a lower offer.
Is it just me, or does this car look like it could be straight out of the 1976 Plymouth Gran Fury brochure? It really does look completely mint. The seller states it’s been a Florida car it’s entire life; it must have been kept covered! Shiny chrome and paint on a two-door coupe without a vinyl top is speaking my language. The skinny whitewalls and original wheel covers help as well. There are 66,610 miles showing on the odometer, and I don’t think this one has gone around.
From this view, I’m afraid I think “police car.” But considering some of the styling excesses coming out of Detroit at this point, this car is pleasingly plain. Come to think of it, I suppose looking like a police car isn’t a bad thing!
Apart from what may or may not be a mark in the center vinyl of the front seat, the interior looks immaculate. Plain, but immaculate. The air conditioning blows cold (actually, the seller says “could” but I think that’s what they meant) and there are no cracks in the dashboard.
the 400 cubic inch V8 looks quite original as well, although I would be tempted to paint the air cleaner and radiator just to bring them up to the level of the rest of the car. The standard specification for the car was a 318 V8, with the 360 and 400 as options–I can’t tell whether this one is the two-barrel or four-barrel optional version. The close ups of the firewall included in the auction listing show that it’s as clean as the rest of the body. Honestly, if this is the type of car you want, I sincerely doubt that you will find a better one!

If we can’t understand the seller–can we trust him?? Will later disputes be attributed to lack of understanding of the Seller–i.e. all your fault?
The car is very……..uhm….white…..and cold. If GE or Maytag made a car this would be it. Oddly satisfying—like an iced, pale ale.
The seller could completely be legit but the text reminds me of some emails that I received in the past from a Nigerian prince.
I think it’s OK. Just don’t send the $6500 test wire and wait for the car + $1 million dollars deposit from Prince Furi Ple’ Mo’uth.

Where as you would be tempted to paint the air cleaner and radiator. I would be seriously tempted into boring and stroking that 400 out to some massive cubic inches! Sleeper anyone?
These were great cruisers. The combo of a long wheelbase and lots of weight made for a great ride. The good condition of this car makes it very interesting.

Whether it’s the 400-2bbl or the 400 4-bbl (ThermoQuad) will make little difference in the general performance of the car. Only about 20 horsepower difference. With the 2.71 rear axle ratio, it IS a great road car AND will still have responsive handling.
The 400 will support the 452 cid engine kit, but to do so would also need transmission upgrades to match.
A good car and “find”, even if it’s in “a light color” and has wheel covers.
The Michigan State Police have one which I just one year older. They must use it for “special events”?

I like this plain jane car. White,A great color for the hot summers here in Texas. A/C and a 400 C.I. engine. A great car for cruising. The little dealer key tag has me a little worried.
