In addition to sporting some of my favorite OEM wheels ever (I think they are from a Dodge Mirada), this 1980 Chrysler LeBaron wagon offers an interior in beautiful shape, reliable slant-six power and air conditioning! It’s listed for sale here on eBay with a buy it now price of only $3,000, although it’s apparent the seller is expecting the pictures to do the talking as the listing contains 11 words and a phone number. Since they are kind enough to do that, I can forgive a lot in the listing, but I hope they expect phone calls. This cool wagon is located in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada despite originally being a California car. My understanding is that since it was originally a US-spec car, re-importation is easier should someone below the border be interested.
After looking over a lot of pictures on the Internet, I found one other 1980 LeBaron wagon with these wheels, so they might just have been factory. I also found very few without the fake wood trim. However, what I was looking for was any evidence of there being a two-tone paint scheme like this, and I didn’t find any. Unfortunately, that may well mean that there’s some bodywork hiding under the other paint on the rocker panels. I’m not sure how easy it’s going to be to find a replacement right rear tail light lens, either.
As one of the last rear wheel drive MoPar wagons, this car does deserve it’s place in history. And for the price, you can afford to commit to some body work, right?
You certainly won’t have much to do as far as the interior is concerned. Apart from what might be a bit of mold/mildew (or just dirt) on the carpet and driver’s heel pad, I think you’d be just find leaving the rest alone. We’re told the LeBaron has 103,000 miles in the ad, and the interior to me shows that someone took pretty good care of the car.
Nice to see that the air conditioning belt is still installed on the slant six. If you could somehow assure me that any rust in the lower extremities of the car isn’t too bad, I’d be very interested in this one if it were closer. How about you?
Trust me a 440 will fit. Rear end won’t last But it will be Fun.
Hell yeah! A slant six with triple webbers would be awesome also.
That’s another two grand. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-WEBER-DODGE-CHRYSLER-PLYMOUTH-SLANT-SIX-TRIPLE-45-DCOE-WEBER-/361376195977
There was some two toning done on the Lebaron’s but it was on the hood & trunk dropping about two inches down from the Windows, then broken by a pin stripe. It was available on coupes and sedans, but I’m not sure about wagons. This looks like a good car, and certainly would make a nice driver.
All I could find was a coupe two tone.
Really good looking wagon. Love those wheels!
Personally, I’d want one with the fake wood; I always liked the detailing. Where most manufacturers just slapped on some Di-Noc and called it a day, Chrysler outlined each panel with fake, but convincing framing.
I did locate a few photos of LeBarons with a similar two-tone scheme, though none were wagons, and there were subtle differences in the position of the color break. This one appears to be painted the same colors as the New Yorker Fifth Avenue of the day.
CHEAP, maybe – CLASSIC, that’s a stretch !! Anymore, I guess anything old is a classic, in most people vocabulary.
“…How about you…”
Yes~
Had several dart wagons,
drove them & volaries for a cab co.
No clifford intake needed on those weber trips. But i’d not install em.
Would have loved to add the good stuff from my retired FHP diplomat. Best handling dodge i ever drove. This is when florida highway patrol was still getting mustangs. Pegged that calibrated speedo often. You don’t outrun the FHP orten.
Let’s see,,, a full size wagon, a/c, 6 adults and 2 kids in the “way back”, luggage on the roof rack, pulling a small boat, and a 225 slant 6. Ooooookay.
Are my eyes getting that bad? I don’t see any two-toning, someone will have to point it out for me. I see a slight color difference below the crease line near the bottom, but I think that’s just the lighting. It also appears to have the vinyl padding behind the back doors like the four doors at the time had.
Bill, if you look closely, you can see where the paint also went up around the bumper area, especially in the rear.
OK, I think I see it now. Just had these old eyes checked last week. Thanks for pointing that out, Jamie.
I was a Chrysler-Plymouth salesman in 1981, and I never saw a Le Baron wagon. But we DID have a 2 door coupe, FULLY loaded, that was midnight blue metallic, and dove gray 2 tone, with T tops ! Dark blue bucket seats, with console mounted shifter. Nicest Le Baron I’ve ever seen. It was the demo for our finance manager.
Basically a New Yorker coupe.
