Chicago Estate Sale 1966 Porsche 912

Estate sales can be great places to pickup projects and Tim B just tipped us off on a good one in Chicago. Turns out there is a 1966 Porsche 912 on offer. Tim would have kept it to himself, but it is a little more than he wants to take on right now so he wanted to share it with everyone here just in case someone was interested. The auction starts at 3pm today so you don’t have much time to get over there and take a look.

In Tom’s own words, “I had to share a quick little story that I couldn’t pass by. I was searching on the internet for various items and stumbled upon an estate sale about 15 minutes from my home in the west suburbs of Chicago. It was intriguing because it was the estate sale of a Dr. whom had a passion for all sorts of things. I noticed a whole bunch of tools as well as a mention of an older Porsche.  Being the car fan that I am and raised by a Porsche fanatic I figured I’d go check it out. It turns out it was a 912 and to my knowledge the car spent most of its life in California and then to its final resting place in Elmhurst, IL.”

“I went by and scooped my dad up today to go have a peek. It turns out it’s a little too much work for me at the present time as I’m a newer home owner without deep pockets. The car will be sold tomorrow by 3pm to the highest bidder in a silent auction type of scenario. I’ve attached pictures as you don’t come across to many “barn find” Porsches in the suburbs of Chicago. It seems like it would be a great starting point for someone as their is rust, but not like expected. If you’d like the exact location I can give you that as well. Hope you enjoy this!” Thanks for sending this in Tim. Whoever picks it up, owes you a ride when it’s running again!

      Nice P
If it cannot sell at 10K I would be interested at doing a rescue/restore at something less than 10K..
      Thanks

The way these are appreciating it will be worth twice what someone pays for it today by next year, then double that the year after, then….

Just be sure to check carefully for the tin worm, especially since it’s been sitting outside in someoe’s back yard……in the Midwest….for who knows how long. Could be a good buy, but could also be lots of work to put right. Inspect very carefully.

    @ Tim

What an honorable thing to do, which is to pass this on to another car enthusiast and hopefully an end user.
This field is unfortunately so littered with flippers and curb side dealers it’s not even funny and takes opportunities from the real ‘restorers’

Very cool Tim, super tempted to run down there from Madison, would have made great company with my 69 912, hope someone who’ll enjoy fixing and driving it wins.
    Cheers

SILENT auction?… hmmmm?? what a crazy thing! It would force you to come to grips with “what is the very most I would pay to get this car?” Sure wonder what it will go for? Looks very interesting.

Looks like someone was at the auction and even filmed a few videos. View the 912 bbs forum thread here.
