There are three basic types of Lotus Esprit, the wedge-shaped “exotic” from Hethel. This is the first, with the non-turbo type 907 engine, and appears to be a nice, clean example. The exterior has been repainted, and I doubt that the interior is original considering it’s shape, but they certainly look nice together. The transmission has been rebuilt recently and the car runs, although the seller states the Stromberg 175 carburetors need to be rebuilt. The usual Esprit plastic issues are there with warped bumpers and rear window slats, but fans of the model except those. This nice example is located in Gurnee, Illinois and is up for sale here on eBay at no reserve, where bidding as I write this is just over $4,000. If bidding stays anywhere close to there, it will be a bargain!

Dream on, Jamie….. bids will easily add 20K more
I can dream, can’t I? 😀
Now up in the $17K range. Is it worth the money? I’d say so. Neat design (well, I don’t care for the slats) and a great chassis, all apparently in decent shape. A pair of Webers would cure what ails the carbs….
This is my kind of ride! Not a “barn find” for sure, but having driven a couple of later Esprits, I could fall for this one. I’m betting the Lotus Lovers would outbid me, though.
The Lotus Lovers or wealthy mothers will outbid you. Remember when a nice one of these was $8,000? They always made me think of a Countache for some reason.
