EXCLUSIVE: 1965 Ford F-100 Flareside

This old Ford is going to need a decent amount of work, but it’s a short bed Flareside that runs and drives! Most of it’s issues are cosmetic, although it does have rust problems. Reader Ken N has decided to part ways with this Ford and thought it might be a good project for a Barn Finds Reader. It’s currently in Oceanside, New York, which explains the rust, and he is asking $3,500 for it. Be sure to message him to get more info or to make an offer!

It looks like this truck has been repainted more than a few times. I can’t tell if it was originally blue or yellow, but the green paint clearly isn’t original. I don’t mind it in green, but I think it would look better in blue. If you decide to strip it down and fix all the rust, you can always change the color to whatever you want. So would you return it to the original color or do you like it forest green?

From Ken –  This 1965 V8 F-100 was converted to automatic many years ago. It has the typical northeast rust on body and frame, but is restoreable.

Body Condition: Decent condition mostly intact body. Great restoration candidate.

Mechanical Condition: Runs, Drives and stops. A manual choke would make it easier to start.

Interior Condition: Starts from key. Mostly intact interior.

I see a lot of work here, but I also see lots of potential. These are great trucks and can look great original or customized. Given the condition, it might make more sense financially to customize it, but that will be up to the next owner to decide. If you have any questions for him, but sure to ask either in the comments or email him. Special thanks to Ken for sharing his Ford with us!

It would be good to get some shots of the cab mounts, floors, radiator core support etc to assess rust damage. So important to get a truck with good bones for a project as rust repair will quickly evaporate any blue sky you may have in it.

Great find. My only gripe is the lack of pictures on the “contact” threads. I’ll bet that hurts a sale. I’m always amazed these continue to surface. We’ve GOT to be running out pretty soon. I agree with Warren, the front cab mounts on these were a bad spot, but I believe everything is being reproduced after market, just a big job. Again, can’t go wrong here, I’d love to have this. For me, it’s better than anything offered today.

    Great Father/Son/Daughter project here.
Easy to work on and lots of parts available.
Looks like a reasonably solid base to start from.
My 12 year old has helped with several restorations, and has been working on his very own 1978 K20 for 2 years now.

Got to love these old trucks as they were trucks not family haulers. Wish it was closer. Good luck with the sale.

The truck might be a 65 but the grill is from a 66.
