EXCLUSIVE: 1970 Lotus Europa Project

Seller Description: Needs restored, has been partially prepped for auto crossing. Comes with spare head for the Renualt engine. Has DCOE Weber carb, header & custom exhaust. 8″ wide rims with BFG tires. No engine cover, sorry. My girlfriend thought she wanted a toy to go fast in. Then changed her mind……… Can’t live with’em can’t cook’em & eat’em!

We’ve talked many times about the Lotus Europa, they are fun little cars to drive. I’ve actually thought about buying one to autocross or even drive to work, but I’ve yet to find one close enough. Red’s Europa is still a bit too far away for me, but if you happen to live in California and have been looking for a Lotus to turn into a track car, you might want to have a closer look. It’s going to need work, but it gives you the chance to build it the way you want.

Special thanks to Red for listing his Lotus with us! I hope we can find a new home for it with someone who wants a toy to go fast in. If you’d like to have it, be sure to message him via the form below. And if you have a go fast play toy that needs a new home, please consider listing it with us!

Location: Granada Hills, California

Super fun cars…….for little guys. I can fit in a Twin cam but these early ones are tiny inside. Looks like a great buy. Good luck with the sale

Dave – I’ve forgotten..how tall are you ? I’m 6’3″ and got in my friends brand new ’68 Europa while stationed in Germany. Yes, I was quite flexible then & wouldn’t want to do it in rain nor snow, but it was done. Open door, back toward seat, bend as far a one could at the waist, duck head, rotate head..torso..while pulling right leg under steering wheel, drag in left leg…reach WAAAAY out and close door. Buckle up. Already had seat adjusted all the way back. Fit wonderfully. Oh, almost forgot MOST important part….either drive without shoes (size 12+ feet), or wear form fitting racing footwear… A BLAST on the “twisties”…he never let me take it on the Autobahn ! !

I always loved the full sail panel look…and the twin cam engine of the notched sail panel cars. Either way, one of the iconic cars of the 70’s…would scare the daylights out of me on today’s highway; would have me giggling like a little kid in the mountain roads

After jumping out of a ’65 Ford F100,
I drove one of these – almost hit a parked car, while
    turning a corner.Great driving cars!

The early models were fabulous with those “sail panels” and little Renault engines (and mostly phony “bumpers”). An Army friend had one in BRG with black interior. Brand new ’68. Purchased after he totaled his former brand-new red ’67 Firebird 400 convert (white top/interior). Handled,as they say, like a go- kart. Couldn’t possibly get in one today without assistance….then there’d be the awful getting out part… Yikes ! Great memories though !
