One Owner 1959 MGA Project!

1959 MGA

I know there isn’t much time left on this auction to act and we all know the last thing you ever want to do is rush into buying a project, but I think this one might just be worth rushing into! MGA values are on the rise, even rusty projects are going for decent money. This example has plenty of issues, but the seller’s mother purchased it new and it has been in the family ever since. They claim the engine was rebuilt 5k miles ago, but I’m not sure that matter since it has been parked for the past 10 years. If you think you’d like to tackle this project, you can find it here on eBay in Wichita, Kansas with a current bid just under $5k!

1959 MGA Project

Sadly, this car has some rust issues that will need to be addressed (I’ve seen far worse go for more though) and it will likely need mechanical work. The interior also needs to be completely redone, but parts are readily available for these. I love the color combo and the fact that it is a one owner car, I just wish they would have taken better car of it. So do you think the price is good enough to risk bidding on it without doing an inspection first? Maybe one of our readers in Wichita can go take a look at it!

Well, it’s had a cheap respray paint job at some time (fender piping sprayed white). Looks like it sat outside for the last 10 years so rust issues in the doglegs and under the doors. the buyer will need new floors also. There are tons of MGA parts available through a variety of suppliers so this could be made into a driver with patience and TLC. They are fairly easy to work on.

Lets start with the price. This car is way ofer priced. Even as a parts car. Should be around $3500. Their is considerabl rust adout the piping. Driver’s side floor support is very rusted. Meaning the frame will have issues. Also the doors arn’t shut. Sagging issue? Lots of dents in the chrome (front). It is replaceable but it adds to the cost. Gas cap is open. Why? Tank maybe rotted. Ill stop here and get off my high hourse. One owner is a very good thing.

    I like most English cars.
Anybody know how to cast wider net on Craigslist.
I want to expand my search without having to reset my search into different areas.
    200 miles isn’t enough, I need 2000 miles.

Back around 1980 or so, I bought one of these with the moderately rare wire wheels from a friend’s husband for $500. It had a minimal amount of rust. I replaced the top, the entire wiring harness, did a valve job, and rebuilt the SU carbs (HS4s?). New tires, ignition parts and exhaust. The upholstery was good and I got everything working. Had it painted. Sold it for $2500 about 5 years later.

It was a fun project, but I found it to be very primitive to drive. No power (unlike the rare twin cam), and not very comfortable, but handled well. Here’s a shot of it. I apologize for the color choice (I was young and stupid then…I’m older and wiser now…one man’s opinion anyway).

VAN…. try onecraigs.com It will search every craigslist in the country at the same time. Works great if you’re looking for an MGA…. not so much if you’re looking for a toyota camry lol.

      Can also try http://www.adhuntr.com/
I have occasionally wasted time mooning over some silly things which show up there, and are pretty much out of my budget. Oh well, looking is free at least!
