Supercar Suspension: 1993 40th Anniversary Corvette

Finding a special edition Corvette isn’t a difficult feat. Blame the production numbers: cars like this 1993 40th Anniversary Edition ‘Vette have 6,749 twins running around – not exactly plentiful, but not scarce by collector standards. Still, finding one this nice can be a challenge. This car is a well-loved driver that has only covered 44k miles since new. It also has one very special option that really makes it a pleasure to drive. Find it here on eBay where it’s listed for $14,500 or best offer.

This color always plays tricks on my eyes. Maybe I’m color blind, but this always strikes me as being closer to purple than red. It is technically considered “ruby red” and was a special shade reserved for the 40th Anniversary models. Speaking of special colors, this package was a full cosmetic dress-up that many Corvette fans go batty for. It may not have had any engine upgrades, but the venerable LT1 wasn’t anything to scoff at.

Ruby red on the seats, ruby red in the carpets, a ruby red convertible top – I wonder if it came with some Ocean Spray Ruby Red grapefruit juice? Seriously though, this ‘Vette is destined to be a nice summer evening cruiser, with it’s automatic transmission and drop top combo. Chevy did offer this anniversary package with the delectable ZR-1 and/or a manual transmission, but the price tag is significantly higher for the 1-of-250 ZR-1.

This particular car was ordered with one very special option though. If you look at the center console just below the shifter, there are a couple of dials. Those control the electronically adjustable Bilstein shocks that were included in the Electronic Selective Ride and Handling package. This was a must have if you valued comfort, but still wanted to have control in the twisties. It was originally developed for the Porsche 959 supercar and you can read more about how it worked here on Corvette Action Center. So, with its low mileage, drop top, and handling package this Anniversary ‘Vette looks like the perfect way to enjoy the summer!

Nice car. Always liked these. I picked up my 94 Base last year for $8,000 w/ 55k on it. Came with upgraded heads intake and brakes. Replaced fluids, gaskets, tires, belts, etc. Runs like a champ.

Overall I like the car but, I don’t care for the A/C vent outlet directly in front of the passenger. It looks very obtrusive and gaudy to me. Seems like that could have been done better in the design phase.

Some people complain about Corvette interiors being too hot. Maybe GM Design listened to their customers.

Bucyrus is the bratwurst capitol at least of Ohio. This car was probably in many bratwurst festival parades. So much for the non-smoking. I attended the festival and from a distance a thought the downtown was on fire but it was just dozens of grills.

A few miles away is the popcorn festival, and to the East; the ice cream festival. Now I’m hungry.

I always loved these from the UK but now here in North America just cant get past how nasty and cheap the interiors are. Not a place i would want to be. Huge performance for the money though.

Ian, I have a ’94 and there’s nothing cheap about the interior. C4’s offer a lot of car for the money. This is my 2nd C4 and 3rd Vette and I always buy the best one I can find.

If you’re looking for more ‘bang for the buck’ in something for yourself, a C4 is definitely worth a look. Still had the separate engine, tranny, differential setup vs the later transaxel. In fact the C4 broke ground suspension wise that has been replicated in later models.
If on the other hand you’re looking for something to fix up and sell, not many C4’s will be in your selection group.

I like it but it’s more of a city car IMO with the automatic. If you want a cruiser then the 6 speed is the way to go.

It’s old enough to have character yet new enough to get parts for it.

I’m biased. My first Corvette was a ’95 which I had for almost 8 years. They were high-tech when they debuted and are among the cleanest designs of all time. The fact that they were produced for a long time and there are so many of them should not detract from appreciating them (see 911 Porsche).

Prices are all over the board. They suffer from the Corvette owner syndrome, i.e. Corvette owners all think their cars are worth far more than they really are. But this is primarily because they are such a screaming bargain. No other car can do so much for your ego for so little money.

Prices are also affected by the guys whose wives tell them to sell that 3rd or 4th car so they list them on Craigslist for half again what they’re worth & then tell their wives that the car just isn’t selling. But that happens with other marques as well.

They’ll get my C6 when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers (apologies to you NRA types), but if I could afford it I’d have my C4 too. And for those who whimper about the interior – what did you expect for $9,000? The sport seat option is more comfortable than any Recaro I ever sat in.

Great find. Keep ’em coming. Best site on the internet.

I don’t know about parts, we are freshening up a C-1, and have been able to buy every nut, bolt and washer. Just try ZIP and Eckler’s.

This car was a no sale at $13,900. I thought it was a good deal, considering that rare suspension option.
If I ever decide to get into a C4, I would be looking for this option.

My bosses wife bought one of these new in ’93. I sold it for her 3 years ago on ebay for $18,000.00. It had 17,000 miles on it and still had its original tires. I put in the ebay listing ” driven by a little old lady on Sundays”. The guy who bought it said ” I didn’t believe it, till I met her.
