Started A Few Years Ago: 1956 Pontiac Star Chief

poncho

According to the seller, this 1956 Pontiac farm find was started a few years ago. It’s currently stuck in the grass in Batesville, Arkansas, and is for sale here on eBay. The buy-it-now price is a steep $5,000 but lower offers are being solicited. I’m worried about the proximity of the car to the ground and what that will have done to the lower sheet metal–given the rust on the top, I’m guessing there’s a lot more underneath. The car has the original 316 cubic inch V-8, which was a one-year only offering in the Star Chief. I wish there were some more pictures in the listing, especially the underside and interior. It would take a hefty bill at the platers to restore this car, but it’s certainly different from the typical tri-five Chevrolets, which would be nice when you took it to an event. The seller says they are selling some of a 40+ year collection, although they don’t have anything else on eBay at the moment. I can see what I think are a Thunderbird, a Maverick, and two GM trucks in the background of the pictures–anyone know more about these? Interested in a trip to Arkansas?

As the supply of usable building material dries up, it’s inevitable the prices of even the most hapless remains of what once was a desirable car will command higher prices. However, I think this seller has jumped ahead quite a few years when setting the price for this one.

Typical it started several years ago phrase, well if it did why didn’t you move it to more stable ground rather than let it sink in the Arkansas mud. I’m a Pontiac guy but no thanks.

Love this bodystyle with two doors, but the cost to make just road ready would be more than it would be worth. I think Denis is correct on the shakes.

How about $5,000 Confederate dollars. They were worth something once also.

I rather doubt it started just a few years ago. The asking price is absurd.
