1 of 500 Sold: 1965 Renault Alpine 110

This 1965 Renault Alpine A110 is listed for sale in Mexico, where the seller claims it was one of only about 500 cars sold there. I suspect this is one of the Mexican-built Dinalpin editions, as Renault contracted the manufacturing of the A110 out to multiple factories in different countries. About 500 Dinalpins were made, which squares up with the seller’s listing details. Find the A110 here on eBay with a Buy-It-Now of $26,800.

I will be the first to admit I could be wrong about the Dinalpin claims, but this car is wearing the same style of steel wheels and hubcap that the Mexican-built variant wore. The car is clearly in project mode, with some bodywork and prep work already performed and some of the glass removed. The seller notes the car’s original color is red, with some traces of it still visible.

The A110 was an incredibly successful rally car, and the interior reflects its roots in competition given its all-business setup. The interior will need extensive refurbishment, and seats and carpeting will need to be sourced. The seller provides a long list of spare parts he’ll include, like the missing glass, beltline trim, side and rear mouldings, Cibie headlights, and more.

The listing mentions the A110 brakes well, but due to some language confusion, it’s difficult to assess whether the listing says the engine still runs. Regardless, finding a complete drivetrain beneath this weathered exterior and stripped interior is a surprise, and this A110 is a rare and desirable icon regardless of which country it was made in. A similar Alpine project in Mexico City was the subject of an episode of one of the ‘car hunter’ shows, that one having a Gordini version of the base engine, which also appeared on the 1600cc non-Twin Cam Lotus Europa. Not sure anyone would be enthusiastic about a vanilla Renault 1600.

yea Dave W sure is a mud queen. An old timer once told that they made Renaults out of Prince Albert tobacco cans. Look this one over good!

It is Dinalpin. It is relatively cheap. It could be beautiful. Similar FASA built cars here in Spain start at $35000 in this condition. All parts available. Enough of the knee jerk stuff about Mexico.
