1 Owner Camper Special: 1977 Chevrolet C/K 2500

This 1977 Chevrolet C/K pickup is a Camper Special model, equipped with a few upgrades from the factory and in claimed survivor-grade condition. The truck shows just under 60,000 miles from new and comes with a 454 paired to an automatic transmission. The body shows nicely with no signs of rust or damage, and is listed here on eBay with bidding over $5K and the reserve unmet. Thanks to Barn Finds reader local_sheriff for the find.

The Camper Special was obviously marketed towards users who would install a slide-in camper bodies. The trucks themselves were equipped with a few unique options to make everyday driving with a camper shell attached, from dual gas tanks, oversized mirrors, heavy duty springs, and a wiring harness for the camper itself. Some also had sliding rear windows, I believe.

This example is not only desirable for those options but also the exceptionally clean condition. The cabin shows limited signs of wear, with extra clean carpets, unmarked bench seat, nicely preserved door panels with clean wood trim, a crack-free dash, and a clean gauge cluster. The seller notes all of these components inside remain original to the truck.

The original spare and jack are still with the truck, and the engine bay retains factory stickers and markings. The 454 is paired to an automatic transmission with power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel, and air conditioning. While Camper Specials may not be particularly sexy, they are loaded with desirable equipment useful for camping or just the occasional heavy load.

It’s an early ’77; the documentation states the delivery date as 10/11/76 and that makes sense as Chevrolet started painting engines blue in ’77 but the earliest production engines, like this one, were still traditional Chevy orange.

Beautiful truck! A real truck, not a 4 door short box. Seems to me, they are either C, or K, not both. This doesn’t appear to be 4wd, so this is a C.

Thank you Glen for mentioning this. There is NO such thing as a
      C / K pickup. C designated 2wd K designated 4wd
It is a beautiful truck in excellent condition. All the luck to the new owner.

That is a pretty looking truck, and that 454 is an ideal engine for towing.

I have the GMC version of this truck, with exactly the same interior and colour combination, but unfortunately, it does not look anywhere as good as this beauty.
I would love to buy that truck, because the body of my truck suffers from severe ironworm, and I would bet that it would cost less for me to buy that nice truck than it is going to cost me to redo the cab on mine.
You are correct about the sliding window, I have that option on my truck.
    A very nice truck.

I don’t see the money that these square bodies and bringing. I like the trucks, and have owned 3 of them over the years, but I just don’t get it. In the northern states, these trucks would start rusting before they even left the dealer’s lot!

I moved from the rust belt to NC 25 years ago and I still see these trucks running around with great bodies on them in NC almost daily….they don’t seam to rust here, however I remember having seen them in the northeast rusted to death…..but still running!

I live in PA and there are very few nice square bodies left around here. But you are right, there are still some running around. Mostly with rusty rockers, front fenders, and bed sides.

Wow! My dad bought one identical to this one brand new in 77. Same color and running gear. Would take it fishing with the camper on the back and pulling a 25 ft boat. I remember him doing some up grades to the motor and how impressed it pulled both together. I would love to have this truck just for the memory, but no place to put it. Also I turned 16 in 1980 and remember the awesome burn outs this truck would do. Dad even showed me once or twice how to do it. Good times!

Same two tone colors as my ’78 GMC Sierra Classic. Equipped mostly the same as well, except mine has a factory sliding rear window, intermittent wipers, and mine is a one ton (C-35). Great trucks. The new owner is going to be very happy with this spotless truck.
