$1500 Special! 1966 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88

Outstanding in its field, this 1966 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 in Alvaton, Kentucky seeks a new owner here on eBay where a paltry $1500 will make this barn-find beauty yours. Its black-and-white interior and big V8 would have given it show and go in its hey-day. Thanks to reader local_sheriff for spotting this full-sized tow-door hardtop.

Oldsmobile’s sales literature called buying the Dynamic 88 “One smart move!” Judging from the visibly rusted lower panels (and license plate!), it would be a smart move for any prospective buyer to get some undercar pictures before clicking Buy It Now.

The small air cleaner housing implies a standard “Super Rocket” V8 which used 425 cid (7.0L) and a two-barrel carburetor to make 310 HP and a velvety 450 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded four-barrel version made those numbers 365 and 470, respectively, and came with a bigger air cleaner housing. Thanks to lov2xlr8.no for some details. This single-family car appears to have escaped high-school hot-roddery and even wears a belt on its air conditioning compressor.

General Motors’ black and white interiors always catch my eye, and they go with any exterior color. Be careful, or these tattered seats might catch the seat of your pants. Sure – it probably needs a complete interior, but that color scheme is a winner. Will you click “Buy It Now?”

I learned to drive on a 66 Delta 88. Great car but my parents got rid of it in 1976 partly because getting parts for it had become difficult.

I also learned to drive on my parents Delta 88 but it was a ’69. At 14 years old, my Dad would throw me the keys and tell me not to raise too much dust or hit anything. Then go in the bar and drink while I drove in the huge dirt parking lot for hours. I did drive him home on a few occasions.

Looks crispy, the fact that the passenger side photo is from waaaaaaaaaaaaay back leads me to believe that side is worse.

Seller claims a its a 425, which would be pretty cool.

Grandparents had a 65 dynamic 360hp super rocket 88 back in the 60’s. Most of the old timers will tell you that shortly after they bought a car they would top it out. That Olds was the first car he didn’t top out. After he hit 120 mph, he just figured it was fast enough!

At 55 and in the last year of Baby Boomers I am reluctant to call myself an “old timer.” Maybe it was the way I was brought up; don’t remember ever owning a car I didn’t “top out” shortly after I bought it. Come to think of it, sometimes that was part of the test drive.

Nice looking car with very cool taillights. It’s pretty rusty on the lower edges and maybe the floors and trunk are shot but it seems to be complete. No word on if it runs or if the motor is stuck. Might be worth a shot, especially for only $1,500. Who knows? Maybe you could chew the seller down a bit, too. Could be an interesting project for someone who could do most of the body work themselves.

In the past 2 months I’ve spent $3000 recommissioning a ’67 Newport Custom Coupe, a pretty nice car that runs nice, and I paid just $1250 for it, plus $800 to have it transported. so I have about 5K in the car now.

It looks nice, has very little rust, interior is great, and the 383 runs like a sewing machine. It’s going to be a really respectable cruiser here in a couple of weeks, for a total of about 5K.

Well, the two cars are similar…coupes, mid-60s, V8s, but this Olds is gonna need an assload of work just to get it to run. The interior is gonna cost a fortune. Brakes, brake lines, man that is gonna be a lot of work. And good luck finding any aftermarket sheet metal for a Dynamic, and if you do, have fun replacing that! My point? Well, not to be too negative, but this car should have been sold to a car guy 20 years ago. Even at $1500 bucks I wouldn’t touch it. Look harder and find the better project car.

I’m sure there’s little chance to stumble upon many other 66 Olds fullsizers at any car show. It’d be very interesting how that massive 425 would behave? Given it’s not the most sought after 60s GM car I’m sure sellers asking can be adjusted further, one might end up with a muscular 2dht vehicle for less than 1k here.

I wish any prospective buyer best of luck locating parts for it though!

You can’t get started on a classic car for less than this, a very good starter project for a new enthusiast for very little money.
    God bless America

Love these big olds. Run and drive great. I have 2 66s and 2 65s love driving all of them. 1500 is a bad price for a 2 door. Rust maybe the issue here, coming from a rust belt area. I do have 2 66 parts cars aswell so could have what this car needs, just to far away.

For those of you who actually read my comments, you’re gonna say ” jeez this girl had a lot of cars” and when I was young, I did. I rarely kept a car longer than 6 months.
When I was 17, I had a 1965 Olds Dynamic 88 convertible in Navy blue with sky blue interior. Paid $500 for it in 1970 at a used car dealer. It had a missing bolt on the idler arm which made it shimmy going down the road. My friend who worked at a gas station put it up on the lift and fixed it. Great car after that. I was always burning rubber in that thing.
Drove it from NJ to CA with that same friend. Six months later sold it and flew back to NJ where I bought a 1962 Buick Electra 225 convertible in baby blue with baby blue interior.
And guess what? I HATE BLUE! LOL
Not a fan of green either, but fortunately only had one green car.
Back to the Dynamic 88, fun car, fast car.
