16k Mile Survivor! 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

When it comes to the second-generation Camaro, Chevy continued to make the lines a little sleeker as the years went on, and by 1979 they had just about conquered the second-generation body design. Add the Z/28 package and you were the envy of everyone in your neighborhood. This body style has become a classic and still looks as good today as it did back in the seventies. If you’re in the market for a nicely preserved Camaro of this vintage, then this car may be for you. Located in West Chester, Pennsylvania, it can be seen here on eBay with a Buy It Now price of $32,500. There’s also a make offer option as well.

The great news is that there are lots of photos. If I counted correctly, 97 of them to be exact. And judging from the pictures, this Z appears to be in exceptional condition inside and out. This car really does look like a survivor that has traveled less than 400 miles a year since it was new, and the nearly 100 photos show a car that looks pretty amazing from every possible perspective. The black paint still looks great, and even the decals appear to be in very well preserved condition.

This Z/28 has a 350 V-8 backed up with a manual gearbox, and that 4 speed should make this car more attractive to most potential buyers. The positraction is nice to have as well. Inside, we have a tan interior, which was a popular choice in the late seventies to go with a black exterior. The inside of this Camaro looks to be well cared for and in very nice survivor condition. The radio is an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette with a Pioneer Equalizer Booster underneath, which was a really hot sound system for its day. Fortunately, there are several photos of the underside of the car, and like the seller says there are no signs of rust or damage. There are also no signs of leaks under the car.

So this Z/28 really does look the part of being a well cared for, low mileage survivor car. The photos are intriguing and make me want to find out more about this car from its days gone by. If everything checks out and the car looks as good in person as it does in the photos, which I suspect it does, I might be ready to press the buy it now button and spend my $32,500. What are your thoughts on this 1979 Z/28? If it’s all original and the mileage can be confirmed, is this a reasonable price to pay?

I would rather have 2 of these than the 73,000 one listed earlier. Granted the other one is very nice, but it’s more than double the price of this one.

I don’t think many ’70s t/as were driven so little, except the ’79 aniversary ones with the 4 speed.
Never seen RWL tires like these Generals – either they have been discontinued &/or they are suv/truck tires.

Gee, for another few grand you could paint it a horrible beige color and have a twin to that overpriced one.

OK, here we go… A 4 speed. Clean, low miles, change the wheels, and we have a winner!

Any car like this from back in the day reminds me of the old joke: How do empty out a disco? Run inside and yell “THERE’S A BLACK CAR OUTSIDE ON FIRE!!!”. Works every time. 🤣🤣🤣

    Wow. Just wow.

What a beautiful 79, certainly one of the nicest that I’ve seen.

On the one hand it is a shame about the stereo modifications to the doors, dash, and parcel shelf.

On the other hand, this is pretty much exactly what I would have done if she were mine in 79. I was into high quality audio at the time (still am) and the seller is right – this is a killer period correct system.

Nice car in really great shape. The 4 speed is a definite plus. It will bring good money. I have to disagree though about the 2nd gen Camaros looking better as the 70s went on. For me the debut 1970 2nd gen Camaro is the best looker and one of the nicer car designs anywhere. As more “stuff” got added to the body the farther away from that clean design it got.

They are not original tires of course they should be goodyear polysteel radials or uniroyals, depending on where the car was built

Is it worth $32,500 you ask? I say YES!

The 4 speed has to be rare. I remember seeing a late 70s one like it up in a Canadian showroom and it was the only one I had ever seen. I began to wonder if it wasn’t an American option. I know the GM auto of those years was pretty good, but a stick is always the way to go.

I was saving up for a down payment to buy one of these back in 1979. If I remember they were less than $7k, but I was still living with my parents, not long out of high school and in a dead end job. I realized I’d be trapped living at home, with a car payment and high insurance.

Instead I used the couple grand I’d saved up and took out student loans to go to college. Worked out for the better.

I feel bit for the owner of the beige camaro I think he priced himself so out of the game it’s ridiculous! I like this one and the manual is nice plus!

It looks like a brand new car. I can’t believe the condition of the interior. This is a beautiful car.

    LOL.
I had an ’81, same exact color scheme, but mine was the V6 Sport Coupe.
I had the same under dash graphic EQ / Booster too, flashing level lights and all.

Black. Four speed. 32K. Unfortunate timing for the guy trying to get 73K out of that tan one.

If I could back to the summer of 78 I would tell my 22-year-old self to buy the 79 Camaro Z28 not the 79 Mustang Cobra. I think I would have enjoyed it much more.

Compared to the Beige wonder… this looks like a bargain… to me it just doesn’t sit right on those tires. Just seems off.
