17,500 Original Miles: 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix

This 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix is listed as a low-mileage, time capsule-grade survivor with just 17,500 miles. Checking out this picture from the front, you can see it still wears its dealer license plate insert from the 1980s, with near-perfect color still evident, and the painted bumpers show no sign of fading. The Grand Prix features two-tone paint and is hiding out in a storage unit near Bellevue, Kentucky. Find it here on eBay with bidding over $5K and the reserve unmet.

The Grand Prix shows virtually no signs of age, with the taillight lenses in excellent condition and rear bumper trim mimicking the good order of the front. The two-tone light over dark blue paint scheme is handsome, and the Grand Prix wears historic tags, which should indicate it stopped being used for daily transportation years ago. The seller says there is no rust to be found anywhere on the car.

The interior is in great shape, with cloth seating surfaces showing no sign of abuse and a crack-free dash ahead of the driver. The seller notes the Grand Prix is equipped with air conditioning, cruise control, and tilt steering wheel. It’s hard to see the carpets, but I assume they’re clean. My mother owned this exact car in black with red velour interior; this one is much easier on the eyes.

The Grand Prix is equipped with the 3.8L V6 (same as the one we featured earlier this week, but without the T-tops.) The quality on my mom’s car was fairly abysmal, which is what made my parents become devoted Honda owners beginning in 1987. The Grand Prix here is likely one of the best ones you’ll find for the money, depending on what the reserve is set at.

Painted bumpers? The bumpers on these years were prone to pealing and rust, but I don’t recall them being painted. Maybe you are talking about the inserts they used between the body and 5 mph crash bumpers? They did tend to turn a yellowish-orange color. Otherwise, a really nice survivor.

Yes, my mom had the 1986 Monte Carlo. If my memory is correct, the bumpers needed to be waxed and polished to prevent peeling. The painting was on the inserts between the body and the bumpers. They were prone to cracking.

The “artistic” orientation of the various pictures gave me a headache! A nice car, but not quite as sharp as this one also listed:

    GLWTA! :-)

The bumpers have those plastic covers that were fashionable for a few years..Hated them because they did not polish or wax very well.Simoniz would live in the pours when they would wear after a few years unless you used a really good buffer..Other than that this is a nice representative for the make and the year.
