17k Miles: 1985 Mustang GT Convertible

The pony car wars were finally heating back up in the mid 1980’s and Ford was ready to take on all challengers. This 1985 Ford Mustang GT has traveled only 17,800 miles since new and is loaded with factory options including a convertible top. The Mustang GT is listed for sale here on Craigslist at an asking price of $19,500 which seems really reasonable for its condition. The car is located in Spokane, Washington. We appreciate Matt H. for sending us this tip.

The grey interior looks factory fresh and just how I remember it when I went with a friend to the Ford dealer so he could order a Mustang GT. I remember that he found one at the dealer that he liked and negotiated hard to get it. He still has the car. The convertible top looks new and is said to have been kept out of the weather. Basically, someone saved this car for the next buyer to enjoy unless it goes in a collection.

The 5.0 liter V8 was rated at 210 horsepower and 270 lb ft of torque in 1985 and the car was equipped with a 4 barrel carburetor. Another plus on this car is that the engine is backed by a Borg Warner World Class 5 speed T-5 manual transmission. In 1986, Ford would feed the 302 cubic inch V8 through fuel injection so this was the last year for a 5.0 liter carbureted Ford Mustang. This body style represents the third generation of the Mustang and it was produced from 1979 to 1993.

The black paint looks excellent in the pictures and the car is said to run and drive great. I always liked the “phone dial” aluminum wheels and the air slot front end on this model. Car and Driver tested the Mustang GT and was able to report a 6.4 second 0 to 60 time on its Mustang GT that had a base price under $10,000. If you are in the market for a low mileage convertible Mustang, this might be just the car you are looking for.

Finally, a low mileage fox body Mustang that I actually believe to be “low mileage”, unlike the last three that have been featured here.

Nice Fox Body. Plenty of fun to be had here. Yes, $20k for even certain four-eyes is becoming common.

I didn’t like these much at the time, but am starting to appreciate them more 30+ years later. The interior is still garish, typical of the malaise era of ugly, underpowered cars with interiors made mostly of cheap looking plastic.

Wow, nice, and it’s already sold. This car is almost new. It would have been $15k back then and around $34k in today’s dollars so $20k doesn’t seem so bad. Not quite loaded though, no power windows and looks like no A/C but hard to tell for sure from the pics. Missing the cruise control option which is good as you didn’t get the ugly cruise control steering wheel.

This one was calling my name.
86 GT, convertible, black, manual, low miles, great price.
I knew that it would sell immediately.
Not that I had the money to buy it or anything.
