1928 Ford AA: What Would You Haul?

1928 Ford AA Truck

Update 3/9/2016 – This truck is still up for grabs and has been relisted here on craigslist with a lowered price! The seller is now asking $2,000, so hopefully someone gives it a new home soon!

From 1/29/2016 – This old truck may look a little rough, but it’s a heavy duty hauler that still runs. The AA may have used many Model A parts, but it had a beefed up frame so it could handle work truck duty. They may not be as desirable as the car version of the vehicle, but I could think of some good reasons to drag this one home. It’s located in Silverado , California and is listed here on craigslist for $2,500. Can you think of any good uses for it?

Model A Engine

I mentioned that the AA borrowed some of the components from the Model A car and this is one of them. The same four-cylinder resides under the same hood. Not that that was a bad thing mind you. The AA benefited from lots of little changes that made it a more capable hauler.

Bugeye on board

As you can see, this one has been used for its purpose. The flatbed is from another truck, but it has the Ford emblem on it. The truck is going to need some rust repair, but the asking price makes it a tempting work truck project.

I just wanna know where the rest of that Bugeye is…

I had one of these back in the day. It was called a stake body. The cab more closely resembled the ’27 Model T before refinements were made. It had a two speed rear operated by a toggle pedal on the floor. When we parted it out, my uncle took the rear and installed it on his ’30 A pickup. It was a one of a kind.

Is that a Bug Eye hood (bonnet here in OZ) on the tray? Mark, Queensland.

From looking at Google images, I can’t tell whether these originally had metal or wood frames for the flat bed. There seem to be a variety of both.

    Very nice when gussied up.

Here’s what it would look like. I saw this on Hemmings. This particular truck was retored by a bunch of kids, age 16 – 18.

Will someone please buy this! I can’t, but the price is right on target. What would I haul? How about a bugeye, or Morris, or put an old Airstream on top.

As interesting as this AA Ford truck is I’d be more interested in the story that goes with the caresal horse stitting next to the sellers fence. If it is wood it could be quite valuable, if it is aluminum not so much. The wood ones would have been made before 1927 and depending on the artist/carver can be worth up to $150000.00 the aluminum ones $500.00. Nice find.
