1946 Dodge 1.5 Ton Woody

1946 Dodge Woody

Here’s something you don’t see everyday! The seller claims that it’s a woody, but it looks more like a truck that has been converted into a people hauler or something. Whatever it is though, it’s interesting. The seller claims the the engine and transmission “turn on”, but that it needs brakes. Unfortunately they also admit that the wood has been cut to make it fit in the garage. Let’s just hope they were careful and that what’s there can be used as templates to cut new wood. I can picture this becoming a classy people transporter for a pumpkin patch or even a pheasant hunt operation! How’s that for dreaming big? If you have a vision and a large garage, this project can be found here on Chicago’s craigslist for $5,500. Thanks goes to Jeff M. for the tip!

I cant belive someone would take a chainsaw to a woody, but I guess so.I dont think this was originaly a woody anyway, and I dont think this is a 1/12 ton, This is a 3/4 ton truck, Maybe a 1 ton.

A full 1 ton truck or larger would have dual rear tires. So I agree with DT this is a 3/4 or light 1 ton truck.

Looks like someone probably dropped a tree or something on a truck a few years ago, made a new cab out of available wood and now this person thinks it is original…

they built these (or buses similar to these) in waterloo New York for a Number of years, very cool find, most likely was a school bus at one point. There is a Woodie Convention in Waterloo NY every year in the summer

One of these days I would like to take on a woodie restoration. I have no trouble with the metal part or the running gear but the wood part would be quite the challenge. But if I were to be able to get a copy of the plans for the body I’m sure I could cut and shape the wood into what’s needed. Of course there would might be quite the scrap pile for the firepit by the time I got finished. It WOOD sure be worth it!
