1955 Packard: Still Classy After All These Years

front left

This old 1955 Packard Clipper stands out in this lot full of more contemporary transportation. It appears complete and original but hasn’t been on the road since 1972. The owner states that it’s been stored indoors. They also claim that they have rebuilt the carburetor, which implies it’s running. Because it’s a California car, perhaps it’s not too rusty. They were going to restore it, but recently purchased a 1936 humpback delivery panel and the Packard has to go. Could a new owner get this running and driving without a lot of money and effort? The asking price of $2000 seems like a pretty low cost of admission. It’s listed here on craigslist for $2000 in Oroville, California.

Looked solid and full of potential but it’s gone already and I’m not surprised. Ca yellow plates still on it……

I agree with LMK, this appears to be a solid car. The 55-56 Packards seem to have been beset with every problem that could be thrown at them. What a shame that we lost them.

The Ultramatic could not handle the power of the new V8. Plus the new V8 had a weak oil pump that, when (quickly) worn, failed to give adequate lubrication to the valve train.

There is one of these north of Pittsburgh on i79 you can see if you know where to look. Bunch of fifties and sixties cars there. Always liked this generation of Packard.

There is a Packard club just for the post WWII 8 cylinder cars that had a member that probably saw this one.

My husband and I bought a ’55 Clipper Constellation at auction last year for $800. Drove it off the trailer when we got home. Only thing truly wrong with it is the seats are missing and a few other pieces parts. We picked up a donor car for $500 a few months ago that had everything ours was missing. Here she is the day we bought her.
