1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible Project

1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible

The asking price may seem insane for such a rough car, but I have a feeling that this 1957 Chevrolet will have no problem finding a buyer. The neon pink exterior might turn a few people off, but those in the market for a ’57 will get very excited because this is a Bel Air convertible. The seller states that a 283 V8 is in place, but there is no toriginally it’s a rare fuel-injected car. After a complete restoration, even with a carburetor, this convertible could be worth upwards of $100k! It will take a lot of time and money to get it to that point, but this does look like a good starting point for someone with the knowledge and resources to do the job right. Find it here on eBay for $28,500 or best offer. The seller also has some other interesting vehicles sitting in the background there…

The blue interior makes me curious about the original color.

It shows signs of blue paint in the edge of the trunk area where the weather seal connects, among other areas.
No expert here, but did Chevy put Fuelie motors in Automatic Drop Tops? I guess anything was possible back then, but what’s the probability.

I wonder if the ’57 Nomad will be up for sale next?

        It’s a 4 door hack job.

Did I miss the video he talks about in the description, I couldn’t locate it, also I’m concerned he only lists the cars location as United States ( WHERE ??? ) that covers a lot of territory if you figured to pay some one to haul it.

This car surely did not make it out of the factory in “Pimp Pink” paint.

I’ll never stop kicking myself for passing on one of these for $400.00. It was in very good condition with a new black top and it ran great. Pale yellow with the silver and black interior. I passed because someone had removed all the stainless side trim. To me, without that iconic look, it just wasn’t a 1957 Chevrolet. I bought a ’57 2 dr. hardtop instead.

What’s happening with the station wagon on the left of the convertible?

Thanks I missed that, still looking for the video he spoke of in the description, if I missed that too I’ll consider myself blind.

I’m being the skeptic again but all too many times I’ve heard: FI but never saw the unit. A four barrel is somewhat impressive but it still isn’t the fuel injection job. I have to admit that the four barrel is easier to keep in tune and is a lot more reliable but for once I’d like the see the FI unit at least included in the deal. That would be the only way to justify the price that’s being asked for something that’s rustier than a bed-wetter’s mattress springs.

More than half of the fuelie cars were taken back to the Chevrolet dealers and converted to 4V or 8V carb units. The FI unit was very sensitive, and if not tuned properly, the cars ran badly. It became “known” that the unit was “problematic”, but the real reason was improper knowledge of the shops for getting them set up.

The Corvette units were more accepted because the mechanics that worked on them were trained more extensively with the fi unit…even then, a large percentage were converted to carbs.

The SCM pocket price guide lists a value range of $75,000-$110,000 for a #2 car. Do you think another 45K on top of the purchase price will put this into #2 condition?

I think you’ll need alot more then 45K to bring it to #2 status. Maybe 65K or more. Who know what’s hiding once you get it all torn down.

Looks like it’s being flipped rather quickly after the Bob Koepke auction a couple of weeks ago.

Trying to be optimistic on this build. Starting at $28,500.00 though seems like one would need scuba gear in the end.

The 57 Chevy was a cool car, but what’s left unrestored out there like this one it just doesn’t make sense to try bringing it back especially starting out investing 30K before you even turn a wrench. There are plenty of them out there already done that would save a lot of grief and likely money.

I was offered one of these, running and drivable, in about 1975 or so for $500. The guy even included 2 new quarters for that price! I had no interest in a convertible then, and no idea what these would be worth some day….

I had a chance to buy one of these 20+ years ago for $350 in springboro pa. Stopped back a year or so later and someone stole it out of the guys field. Red w/ red and black interior. Didnt have a place for it nor the experience to do it right then. Wish I could find another one. Guy also has a 65 mustang fastback, 48 buick and 56 crown vic just rotting away still..

There’s a big car dealer in Langhorne Pa. Reedman Motors and it’s been there since the 50’s. I have the Philadelphia newspapers from the Kennedy assassination with Reedman’s used car ads. They had 4 57 Chevy convertibles for sale from 650.00 to 950.00. If only we had known then what we know now. I found 3 restored 57’s ranging from 55K to 69K asking on line so dropping 30 K on this one just to get it out of the mud makes little or no sense. here’s one of the 69K,er.s.

    Reminds me of a rather unusual car in a private collection [500+ vehicles] in the middle east;
A 1957 Bel Air convertible, Black & white, with not only Fuel Injection, but Factory A/C, a combination the factory claimed was not available. That said, when you are as wealthy and influential as the original owner was, G.M. would build you whatever you wanted*. This car is still in the hands of the original owner’s family, and has been well maintained, but never used, hence the 1,400 miles showing. And no, it’s not for sale, so don’t ask me for the contact info.
    * In the same collection is a 1958 Buick Limited 4-door station wagon. Yes, we know Buick didn’t offer a Limited wagon. Except when this guy said he wanted one. The Body ID plate showing the body style number is blank, & the body serial number is 1. As in 1 of 1 built. The car is black with black & red interior. [If my memory is right, it was a full leather interior.] And like everything in the collection, nothing is for sale.
