1959 Austin Healey 100-6 Garage Find

This 1959 Austin Healey 100-6 has been parked in this garage in Los Angeles, California for a long time and is in need of some attention. The seller’s uncle parked the car next to a ’65 Impala and left both cars to sit. After all these years, they have decided to sell off this car. The seller has decided to keep the Impala, but the Austin Healey 100-6 can be found here on eBay.

It sounds like the seller’s Uncle had good taste in cars, but didn’t know how to treat them. There appear to be lots of dents and dings, plus someone started to disassemble the car. Some of the parts can be seen sitting inside the car, but there also appears to be some lawn equipment being stored in there too. The seller doesn’t say much about the condition of the car, but they claim that everything is here.

This car is in need of a lot of attention and work. We personally prefer the earlier 100-4 over the 100-6, but the six is still a great car and is worth restoring. Early 100s were powered by a 2.7 liter straight four, but to cut costs, later cars came with a 2.6 liter straight six. The smaller six cylinder actually produced slightly more power, at 117 hp versus 106 hp, and could achieve a top speed of 104 mph. The seller doesn’t state what condition the engine is in, so we would go in assuming the worst, while hoping for the best. It may be as simple as giving it a good cleaning, installing some new lines, and giving it a tune up or it could need a complete rebuild.

There appear to be a lot of missing pieces, but hopefully the seller is right and they are somewhere in this garage. Given its current condition, we would be extremely tempted to turn it into a race or rally car. After seeing the Big Healeys at the Colorado Grand, we would lean towards turning it into a rally car. What would you do with this car? Would you restore it, race it, or make it drivable and leave the rest as is?

If I couldn’t restore a car, I wouldn’t buy it. Also I’m confused by your discussion of the engine specifics on this Austin Healey.

Again, who does this? Sad & yes the 104’s are cooler, with the lay down windscreen but a 106 is still great. As for what to do with it, it depends on what the chassis looks like, but I’m sure that the Healey guy they always talk about on Barret Jackson would do a great nut & bolt restore, the trick is to have several parts cars laying around & a great source of repro & nos parts laying around.

Restore, By the way the six definitely sounds better. Healys need big sixes.

Looks like a genuine seller or long term ownership.

But, please! , next time, take the weed wacker off the car, at least for the (amateur) photos..

If I could just see a few more pictures of the left front I’d know if it was the car for me.

I love it! This is one of those that I think would be fun to get running and drive unrestored. Speaking of the sound of the six, I saw a guy getting into a beautiful silver-blue one at a park. I commented on it, and he smiled. He kinda waited to start it…and I said, “oh, that’s ok, I am just waiting to hear that great engine sound.” Well, he kinda frowned a bit as he started up his roaring, rumbling obviously-Ford-v8-conversion Healey and quickly drove off-I think knowing that I was disappointed!! …. It was still great to see!

I drove a 3000 six when I was very young and got rubber in 3 gears. Loved it!! Never got over the car but they are now out of $ range. I would probably be happier with one of the fibreglass replicas with the Ford or Chevy V-8 and modern running gear. They look best in the original livery of a cobra, (blue with white stripe). They cost less than half what a real Healey does and can way out perform. No English electrics either.

This listing was pulled early, so we can only assume a deal was made offline.
