1960 Chevrolet Impala: Stageway 12 Seater

1960 Chevrolet Impala Limo

Jim S recently pointed out to us just how many project cars the Barn Finds staff currently has and I have to admit, our passion maybe turning into an obsession. I’d contend that it is a good thing, but my bank account would say otherwise. Fixing and maintaining a fleet of classics gets expensive, but I think Jim might have found a way for me to pay for my habit! He sent me a link to this Chevy Stageway Limo and with room for 12 passengers, I think I could make some extra cash hauling people in it. Heck, I just live a few minutes from the airport and could easily make the rounds to all the nearby hotels. If you’d like to beat me to starting a limo service, you can find this Stageway here on eBay in Frankfort, Illinois with a BIN of $10k.

If this Impala were a bit closer, slightly cheaper, and in a little better condition, I would seriously be tempted to buy it and put it to work! I’m not sure the general masses would agree with me, but I for one would pay extra to be transported in this over a taxi or a modern limo. Between airport runs, weddings, and prom, I’m sure you could pay for it and it’s upkeep. It will definitely need a lot of work before anyone would want to hire it for special occasion transportation. I just love the fins and trim work on this beast and with some body and paint work, it would look awesome! So do you think this Stageway could pay for our classic car addiction?

I can’t imagine how long it would take to block sand, the sides of the old Impala.

I think it’s great! You could definitely make some money and or get your money back out of it.

Interesting car! The only thing that bothers me about trying to make this serviceable again as a limo is being able to bring it up to current safety standards? It could be a fun project though.

I say use it more for special occasions like weddings / proms and bachelor / bachelorette parties. That way you stay pretty much local stop light to stop light cruises rather than expressway / interstate driving with upper speeds and heavy traffic.

I think it’s a good buy at 10K. It’s rare and everyone loves old impalas. Sadly my garage isn’t long enough for it.

Not an Impala, I think. Brookwood?

No cars have to meet current safety standards except current cars. My 1963 Pontiac must meet the standards that were in place in 1963. Also, 11 passengers/1 chauffer!

There would only be one of these in town.

Super cool. That a/c compressor is HUGE! Love the original door panels and seat. I’d love to have it …at 10K seems a bit much…..gonna take a lot of blocking and sanding to square the metal away

If one hauls commercial passengers for hire, will safety standards be similar to a bus?

Rationalize this way: “You can live in your car, but you cannot drive your house”.

Paint it black, with the red original interior, wide white wall tire’s with stock hubcap’s. Living in wine country in California,I see limo’s all the time taking people to the wineries . But I never have seen one of these. This would be perfect for this purpose. Would stand out for sure. Wonder what something like this cost when new?

I think people today want the limo of today over the old, maybe some weddings of older people might get them excited ? But I really think it would take a long time to make your return on it.

Brilliant – this looks excellent. Particularly love the fins at the back. Certainly would be unusual owning this. You would get some stares, that is for sure !

There is one local here in the Dallas Tx area. Its yellow, and named “Dorothy”.
The owner has brought it to Cars & Coffee before. It is something to see!

Well, if you still want one, there’s a Pontiac airporter for sale in the Bay Area for 4000 less.

I dunno… might be cool from a distance but has probably been yard art for 50 years or so. Lotsa bondo- OLD bondo- and someone somewhere probably brush painted that drivers side rear quarter panel at some point. I’m a glutton but not for punishment.
