Not everyone has the same definition of a hot rod, but most can agree that something like this that was done in the 1960s fits the bill. This 1940 Ford Deluxe convertible retains its original look, for the most part, but is a combination of Ford and Chevrolet parts from various eras all brought together under one body. This Ford is in need of restoration, and it would be beautiful restored original or restored to how it was built previously. Either way, this would be one slick car to have once it’s fixed up! The only picture provided of the engine was very, very poor quality so I’ve opted to include this shot of the iconic ’40 Ford front end. Underneath that hood is a Chevrolet 283 V8 hooked up to what is presumably a Chevrolet 3-speed transmission. The pedal assembly is from a 1957 Chevrolet, as is the drivetrain including the rear axle. The seller notes that the year and model of donor vehicle has not been verified, but this is the information that came with the car. The seller has also not been able to get the car started, but the engine does rotate freely. \

The interior is fairly intact, but is a bit of a mess. There are all sorts of parts piled in the seats and various odds and ends missing from the doors and dash. The seller notes that it has become a bit of a storage shelf! The seats are light blue bucket seats from a 64/65 Ford Mustang, and truthfully fit the ’60s hot rod vibe of this car very well. Though they clearly aren’t original, they don’t exactly look out of place. The convertible top bows are all attached and in place, and the top goes up and down easily. Lastly, the gauges are clearly not original and the seller figures that they are from “some type of ’60s Ford,” which is a fair assessment.

The floor has been patched in a few places, but as best can be seen in the photos this is worst part of the exterior rust. Since this car has been customized in the past, the only worry is what lies under the repaint. The exterior chrome is almost present and in good condition, and this car has five original ’40 Ford wheels. The rear bumper is from a ’46 Ford woody. Although this car is comprised of various parts from assorted makes and models, it all works together to create a unique looking ’40 Ford convertible. This is the spirit of hot rodding!
