1962 Chevrolet Corvair: 43 Year Nap

right front

This 1962 Corvair is a time capsule, a complete, rust free survivor with only 64,000 miles. It’s located in the desert east of LA so it’s likely to have escaped the ravages of moisture. The chrome and glass are perfect and the interior is nice. It even has the original battery, so it must not be running. If you don’t mind the 2 speed automatic, this could be a fun, inexpensive driver depending on why it was parked and what it takes to repair it. It’s listed here on craigslist in Menifee, California for $3000.

Seems like a solid car and a decent price, though these trade very low so nearly perfect examples can be found for only a few grand more so there should be room to negotiate.

Apparently the Powerglide is a great transmission for these cars but a standard swap is an afternoon job if you are that set on it.

Had one exactly like that in 1969.

Love original California cars that have their original black plates. Used to spend a lot of time in that part of California. My 1st wife grew up in Perris (just down the road from Menifee) and we used to go see her Grandparents in nearby Sun City every xmas while they were still alive up until about ’90. Sun City is a retirement community, and those days lots of Sun City residents were still driving 60s cars most still w/ their original black plates. And that part of California (60 mi or so inland from L.A) is super dry so if the car lived there all its life there’s virtually zero chance of any rot.
