1963 VW Panel Van: Ready To Rat Rod?

vwworkvan

For the record, I am not a fan of rat-rodding vehicles. But when survivors like this 1963 VW Bus in double-door panel van configuration here on eBay (with a Buy-It-Now of $10,200), it’s hard to ignore the urge to preserve the paint as-is and lower the ride height more than what’s practical. The funny thing is, I’m a total purist when it comes to my own cars and try to not deviate from stock configuration. But it almost feels sacrilegious to cover this old Bus in fresh paint when it’s survived for so long in its grungy, weather-beaten state. The seller sounds pretty honest and has addressed several mechanical items, but like many of these older air-cooled Buses, you’ll have some rust issues to contend with. Fix the corrosion and get a decent painter to artfully fade your business name on the sides of this panel van and write it off for tax purposes!

Runs and drives!! owner states: “3 tires are brand new. One is old, cracked, and leaks air.” what’s with that!!??? Jeff, I like your idea on painting the faded business signage and driving it as is!

Some knucklehead cut the quarters…………. but, considering how much cutting the van needs, it doesn’t seem like a big deal.

Terms that should not be used ever again………………rat rod, Eleanor (mustang), classic, investment grade vehicle, I was told……. and some more I can’t think of…………..

Panels have been the hot ticket the past few years and a double door (both sides of vehicle) are fairly rare and desirable.

It’s real rough but in the UK this is a solid start. They aren’t afraid of a project like this.

“Rat Rodding” is a disgrace to such a rare can like this
