1964 Ford Galaxie 500: Big Red Sled

1964 Ford Galaxie 500

Here’s another big red sled, a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500, 2 door hardtop. This brings back memories of warm summer New Mexico nights driving way too fast with the windows down. They don’t handle or stop much better than a sled, but what a great ride. This one only has 83,000 miles, and it’s drivable, but the rest is a mystery. Asking price is $4,800, which is reasonable if it’s in decent shape, and it’s listed here on craigslist. There is a bit of rust showing at the bottom of the front fender, along the bottom of the door, and along the bottom of the quarter panel. These old Fords aren’t worth much, so perhaps one shouldn’t lavish too much money on it. If it’s solid enough, this might be a cool car to just enjoy the way it is as a driver. Some might be thinking of lowering it and such, but I hope not.

People must not be too worried about selling their cars. Bad pictures or only one picture, One line ads, if I wanted it I’d offer half just because I hate his ad.

car does have the correct for the timeframe ” i’m bad ” look. i too think the seller needs to put some work into the listing, but maybe the car is not really for sale. maybe trying to make a third party happy by doing the listing. nice find, maybe.

These Galaxies have a huge following, this car will sell fast at that price is my opinion.

My dad had a red one like the one above, White top was vinyl and interior black vinyl. Very pretty car and first car I drove after getting my license. Very pretty, took it to the senior prom.

In the late 70’s, I had a neighbor who was given one of these w/ a three on the three, in very good condition. I tired to teach him, but he couldn’t get the hang of it and offered to sell it to me for $200!!, but since I already had 3 vehicles at the time and no space, I turned it down! DOH!!! :-)

I’ll take one of these over an Impala of similar vintage any day of the week.
