1964 Mustang: Survivor Coupe

1964 Ford Mustang

The seller of this 64.5 Mustang didn’t provide much information about it, but they state it has a little rust in the doors and doesn’t currently run. It looks solid in this photo, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have rust hiding out of sight. From the engine bay shot you can see the 289 V8 and the A/C compressor! Having A/C would be a huge plus for those hot summer days. Now if only it had a manual to row through. Actually for just cruising around town, the automatic would work just fine. I would want to inspect it closer, but as long as the rust in the doors isn’t serious and the body is rust free, the seller’s $7k asking price seems realistic. You can have a look at it for yourself here on craigslist in Pensacola, Florida. Special thanks to Chuck F for this tip!

Please include a few shots of the cars in the future. Many times the ad is pulled before some of us can see the car. I’m curious if this was truly a 64.5. Was it a generator car etc. I’ve had 11 mustangs including s Boss, GT big block, Shelby etc. A lot of people claim it’s 64.5. Usually not.

Too good to be true? Maybe we’ll know when/if Josh fixes the link. I’m guessing it’s already sold…at that price, if it’s nearly as good as it looks, it’s a bargain!

Decent, straight-ish body, 289, a/c and $7K don’t often appear together in Mustang ads. Just about everything else is fixable with minimal effort. Chime in here, Josh: does it have a manual trans. too?

I think the first guy to see the ad went and bought the car.

(For what it’s worth, the listing previously said: Does not run but will turn just needs some work.)

There were both offered at the introduction in April 1964. If you ordered a 2 barrel, then you got the F code 260 ci. if you ordered the 4 barrel you got a D code 289 ci with 210 hp. The 225 hp 4 barrel came out in Sept 1964 along with the 200 hp 2 barrel 289. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/classicmustang/info

Just to add to Ford history. The 289 was available in 1963. The first Hipo 289 was available as an option in a Fairlane.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong….but….all Mustangs built in ’64 are in fact Vin as a ’65
    So in reality……there isn’t a ‘64.5 Mustang
    Right or Wrong?………

      Wrong!!!
We just went through this about a month ago.
Many of us have seen titles with 64 1/2 from the Ford factory.
      You asked.
