1964 Triumph TR4 Barn Find

A barn find with no rust is a rare thing, especially a British one. Well, the seller of this 1964 Triumph TR4 claims that there is no rust on the frame, floors, or body. That is quite a claim to make after letting it sit for 25 years, but if it is true, their $4,500 asking seems very reasonable. Find it here on CollectorCarAds. Thanks goes to reader Dean for sharing this one.

The new exterior was quite a departure from the outgoing TR3, but dont let those modern good looks fool you. The TR4 used the same basic drive-train as its predecessor albeit with a few improvements such as more displacement in the engine and more synchromesh in the transmission. The rack and pinion steering was also a welcomed improvement.

If we had to pick between a car with a rusty body or one with mechanical and interior issues, we would opt for the later. This Triumph is going to need a new interior and the engine will likely need an overhaul, but those are relatively easy to remedy when compared to a rusty underside. We are a little concerned about that red peeking out from underneath the green paint though. We would want to ask if it hasn’t undergone a color change at some time. If it has, you had better bring a magnet.

Now, we wonder what else is hiding in this barn…

I used to have a ’67 TR4 A but being just out of high school, I didn’t know how rusty the rear frame rails could get and sure enough they were rotted right through. Lesson learned!

Yes a cool barn find. The red under the green is very interesting indeed. Not sure if that might be primer color or in fact another color. The straw at the firewall is a bit over the top!… Good luck who ever buys this!

Agreed, interior and mechanical parts all off the shelf, here in London anyway, but even if that car was kept in your bedroom it would have some rust, probably lots

I think the primer color on these was white.

Looks like a good deal to me! ….I know the surrey tops go for about 1/2 the asking price of this TR! Good color, too…

If there is no rust this may be a pretty good deal.

I’m thinking this might be just fine. Looking in the engine bay area it is green, unless someone removed all the bits to change the color, which I doubt, green it is.

Those hardtops are rather difficult to come by? Price is good.

Hate to point this out, but that’s not a factory hardtop. That’s a Parrish Plastics one; note there’s no separation at the top of the rear window like there would be with a factory “Surrey” top. That being said, still looks like a solid car and a decent buy.
