1965 Mustang Convertible: What’s It Worth?

1965 Mustang Convertible

This 1965 Mustang Convertible is rough and the seller doesn’t provide much information. From the photos we can tell that it’s fitted with an inline-six and an automatic. Mileage is listed at 43k and the red over black color combo is desirable. The photos are too small to tell what is really going on though. Is that a respray? Are the floors rotted out? Does it run? Lots of questions here, but the fact that this car has been listed here on eBay with a $750 starting bid and no reserve make it worth some consideration. The lack of details in the auction description could end up working to your advantage if you live in the Philadelphia area or know someone who can go inspect it for you. We will get the answer in about a week, but until then, what do you think this drop top Mustang is worth?

Restored a 66 Convertible, to do it properly you will need 30-40$k, Nice when done

      This was the after shot.
They can get pretty crusty and may have many years of paint & rust so you really need to have them media blasted to find all the flaws..i ended up changing floor pans, trunk pans, inner fenders, cowl repair, rad support etc. If the Inner rockers are rotted you are into major reconstruction.
Good thing there are lots around and the aftermarket has tons of parts..all you need is $$

After owning and restoring 2 classic mustangs they don’t call them Rustangs for nothing and the convertibles are the worst. They can look decent but they hide rust very well. I do agree it can take 30 to 40K to get a Mustang in to nice condition and that’s with you doing half the work.

The V8 car I just finished looked better than this and needed nearly everything underneath. It was stripped down to a roller, but complete, so there were no surprises and the price was right; far below this car. This one shows zero pics of all the most important places to look and, coming from the rust belt, is sure to be crunchy at best. Even at the current $5100, someone is not going be happy with this one. Add in the fact that it’s a low-option six-cylinder and this will end up way upside down or never finished at all.

Everyone wants a Mustang project and convertibles and fastbacks the most. He hope this buyer isn’t burnt. The price is about right if the rust isn’t to bad, still a lot of welding. You really take a risk buying site unseen. Winning bid:US $6,750.00
