Early 911s may have been priced out of many people’s budgets these days, but it’s always good to have something to aspire to. Their values have made it so you don’t see a lot driving around though so you have to appreciate those people who do. This particular car isn’t perfect, but I think it would make the perfect driver. Refurbish a few things and do the maintenance and you’ll have a permanent smile on your face for years to come. Better hurry though because bidding ends soon here on eBay.
The interior could use a good cleaning and some repairs. You could go with the stock tan color and optional headrests found here or source some vintage race buckets. It might be sacrilege, but it would even be cool to swap everything out for black and have some houndstooth patterned seats stitched up. The woodgrain steering wheel is sweet, but a Momo Prototipo would be more sporting.
The seller doesn’t provide many details about the mechanical condition of the car which seems like a big mistake considering how much these cars can be worth. That is a 2.0-liter flat-six though and when you stick it in the back of this short-wheel-base sports car, you have a recipe for fun… Or disaster depending on how you look at it. These early cars (and most 911s in general) are known for their tendency to oversteer and spin out. It might be a nice challenge to master high-speed corners though.
These cars have unique engineering and rich heritage. There’s an element of danger with that engine hanging out behind the axle and they just look so dang cool. The seller claims that this is a survivor, but then point out that it has been repainted at least once. That disqualifies it from survivor status in our book, but that means it could make the perfect driver!

The dealer had a $75,000+ reserve last time it was listed. It’s probably safe to say no information was omitted from the ad by accident.
It’s nice, I wouldn’t pay that much even if I could afford it, but then again Porsche’s are not my dream car. I hope whoever eventually takes it home enjoys it.

My dream car growing up was a 1973 Porsche 911 Targa. I was fortunate enough to own a 1973.5 911 T Targa that was built on my 11th birthday! A late May car. It was one of the first ones with the K Jetronic injection. The oversteer wasn’t the problem for me it was that split second of understeer when entering a corner on the gas. And man could that car stop. It had all the S options except the engine.
