1966 BMW 2000CS: Slicktop

bmwcoupe

If there’s one thing that gets BMW guys excited, it’s a car without a sunroof. Called a slicktop by enthusiasts, the minuscule differences in chassis rigidity are bragging points for owners of these rare, non-sunroof cars, but I don’t know how much it matters for this 1966 BMW 2000CS here on eBay for $6,000. While the looks are considered polarizing to some, I’ve always found the early CS coupes to be attractive, sporting a distinctive nose yet retaining the classic hofmeister kink at the bottom corner of the side glass. This car has the desirable manual transmission and is said to be largely dry and straight, yet some rust repair is still going to be required. To me, the best part about the package is that the original hubcaps are still in place!

Way,way too much rust repair will be required unless these things are worth 40k when restored. Which they are not. Dealing with hidden structural rust is complicated on these cars.

46K? OK looks like a fine machine. How much would a resto that would take this car to 46K cost?

Are you doing the work yourself? Own a shop and paying employees to do it? Or are you paying a shop to do it?

It would all depend on that and the costs involved, obviously.

I love this car and the shape. I’d love it even if it had 50HP. But the word on the street is that the body construction of these cars can harbor rust like no other car built in the 1960s, AnotherBob is right..
And I love the sunroof of my ’75 Malaga 2002.

A friends father had one of these new in 1967, Beautiful wood work when new, You could have almost 5,000 in refinishing costs on that alone. Ad states no airbox , duh wrong intake and manifold fitted, came with dual solex carbs! How much for that? Still love these cars and the 2800cs that followed
