1966 Chevrolet Impala SS – Parked in 1993!

After production of Chevrolet’s mighty “409” ended in early 1965, the Mark IV big block took over. This 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS or “Super Sport” retains its original numbers-matching Mark IV 396. Last driven in 1993, this Dallas, Texas SS project car awaits a new buyer on Houston, Texas craigslist.org with an asking price of $7500.

For 1966, the Impala lost its signature six round tail lights in favor of these rectangular units. The Madeira Maroon paint has weathered through on the Impala’s horizontal surfaces, and the seller describes some rust-through in the trunk floor and lower quarter panels.

With power steering and brakes, air conditioning, this SS delivered sport and comfort, and should return to fine shape with a simple application of dollars.

The Impala made a fine family car, and the SS appealed to folks who liked their extra space with a side order of sporty flair and fastback hard top styling. Non-SS Impalas offered numerous engines, most of which were available on the SS, all the way up to the solid lifter 427 making 425 HP (thanks to myclassicgarage.com for some details). The seller has not attempted to fire this engine, but it does turn. Who’s ready to swap $7500 for a chance to give this Super Sport a second life?

    I like this one!
I am a bigger fan of the round tail lights but the big block makes one over look the sans round lights and non four speed!

I always like the color used in this impala model and C10 model too!

Someone needs to snag this one as it’s fair priced and probably startable with some either after letting oil set in the cylinders (yes even after he turned it over) for a day or so etc.

No, $7500 and worth it! I own a numbers match ’66 Impala s/w-396ci-400-trans-12 bolt diff. 49,980 miles. To be able to find a numbers matching big block is hard to find, as most were blown up or swapped out. Having a numbers matching s/w is really hard because they were stripped and turned into chicken coops! Hope it is saved.

I love this car, but I don’t have the time or ability to bring it back to life.

Get in the trunk and look up at the corners of the package tray. Rear window and trunk seals were crap after a couple years. I had a ’65 from Arizona that spent most of its time in the garage for fear of leaks.

At this price, you will be upside down pretty quickly. Hagerty lists a “fair” example at 17k. This thing needs quarters, trunk floor, deck lid, complete interior and I’m betting on floors too. The frame? No info – so its suspect. Worthy car to save – but these are never going to be triple digit BJ cars. Back to Earth seller….

the seller listed it on ebay and dropped the price to $6500 firm. seems like a fair price for a matching number 396 big block with a/c. and the seller said the frame is good . seems like a good deal. wish i had the money.

Here’s how to make money in the “old car game”…start an auction company…buyer’s premium, registration fees… My auction company would be named “Beverly Gullwing” based in Paoli, IN.

Back to the subject…this would be a great car to bring back to stock and terrorize the neighbor with.

Pick pick pick. Some people want one (of any kind of car) for themselves, not for profit. Sure you don’t want to get gouged to death in the process but sometimes people like a certain car and the satisfaction of bringing it bad from the dead. I will say this, I actually consider myself too much of a skeptical person for my own good but I read these daily and usually decide that perhaps I’m not as much of a skeptical person as I thought. Lol

I do like this model year, tho I’d prefer a 4 door. Moms swapped off her 63 Bonneville convertible for a 66 Impala convertible in this color, tho I don’t think hers was an SS. It was stolen out of our garage in 1970/71. Don’t remember what car replaced the drop top Chevy, but doubt it was anything as hot as the Chevy, or the Pontiac that preceded it.

I initially thought that it didn’t have much rust, but, it does have quite a bit, another one that has a ” looker” possibility was pretty when new. looking at the shots of the interior, I don’t believe any water got into it the ” wet spot ” that appear in the trunk,” might” be just where rain got in … once again, I think I’d leave this one as stock looking as possible

Had both a 65 and a 66 Impala SS. Both 327 four speeds w/glass pack mufflers. Fun cars. The town I lived in (Lake Geneva,Wi) had two brothers who bought white 65 Impala SS, one with the 396 and the other with a 409.Dont know which one was faster but they were pretty cool.

Memories. My mom had a 1966 Impala 4 door hardtop in this color with a black top and black interior. No, it wasn’t the sporty SS, but it was still nice.

Back in 1965 my mom bought a brand new Chevy Impala 2 door hardtop with the 327 C I engine and automatic transmission. the color was Turquoise with a black vinyl top. within 2 1/2 years she had to have the vinyl top stripped off and painted black Enamel. The car rusted badly at the rear window down into the trunk and rot the trunk out. The leaks and rust also took over around the 6 taillights badly. Beautiful car when brand new but what a disappointment on the early rust out issues. The 1966 Impalas were almost identical except the revised taillights and grill areas and rust outs.

Sure looks like it could have seen some flood water to me. Even the a/c core is badly corroded.

read the guys advert. he doesnt sell flood cars it did not flood in Dallas,. i called him and he did say it had come from tennesee at one time. open mouth, inset foot

That’s obviously been involved in a flood. He could have at least waited for all the wet spots to dry before taking pictures. I’m not saying it’s not still able to be restored but you’re looking at a lot of trouble in doing so and $7500 is too much for a flood car. You’re looking at a total tear down to do it right.

. the seller said its not a flood car. i looked up his ebay listings and he tells it like it is. car is in Dallas, not Houston. why is it that so many people on blogs and facebook open there mouth to insert there foot? maybe the trunk was wet becasue the guy washed it. does it really matter?

IKR? Just cause Texas flooded a bit, and most insurance claims have been long settled it doesn’t mean it was there. It does however look like it has been wet over a long period, not being dumped in the ocean and air dried. Probably rode hard, put away in a wet damp area with no air flow and this is what you get. Judging the bare paint spots, it might have had a poly tarp on it, trapping the moisture too. Flash exposure to salt water looks different. This long term poor storage corrosion.

Nope not even if it was a 68-72 Chevelle in this condition or that Blue Lemans from the other day. He is asking well over double what it is worth. It is a nicely optioned car for sure. But this is right at dug up outta the ground quality. LOL.

The add specifically points out that its “not a flood car” Does anyone else disagree? It looks to me from the back seat that it has been sitting under water. Not to mention every window leaks. I bet if you pulled the dipstick there is water to be found!
