1966 Mustang: Well Optioned Pony

1966 Mustang Coupe

Of all the American cars I’ve driven, I still think the Mustang is my favorite. It offers decent performance, comfort, and lots of style. I even enjoy inline six powered ponies. I do have one complaint about most of the ones I’ve driven though and that’s the lack of A/C. I know some of you will say that it doesn’t need it, but the Mustang isn’t a sports car, its a Grand Tourer. To me this means it needs to be fast and comfortable. This 1966 Mustang found here on eBay might not be a GT, but it has a V8, a 4-speed, and best of all A/C! It’s currently located in Las Vegas, Nevada without a reserve and bidding at $3,100, which seems like a great deal for a V8 pony car.

Mustangs are fun but are not close to being a grand tourer. The are a Falcon with a fancy dress. Someone is going to get a good deal if they don’t go crazy.

if your PI shows no rust this would make a good project depending on where the bidding stops. as for A/C it is nice but only if it works, it does not in this car and might cost a lot to fix. very nice find.

Cars in the southwest don’t rust much but all the soft materials take a beating. If I had my choice, I’d take no rust any day. I think this one could be a runner in very short order.

It’s going to take a new brake system along with a new fuel system from sitting so long. So I wouldn’t go over $5k. Plus I have to wonder about the leather interior, since it was not an option. People can’t tell the difference between leather and vinyl…

I made this mistake once here about whether a Mustang on this board was a 4-speed or a 3-speed. This car clearly shows(unless I’m blind) there is not a reverse lock-out T-handle on this shifter(making it a 3-speed). Does anybody else see a lock-out T-handle?

Yep Rocco, you are correct. No lock-out T-handle.

    don’t forget that shipping a non-runner adds a premium!!!

Yeah, looks like a 3-speed. Still could be fun, and while you were spending money bringing it back, you could drop in a 4-speed. Falcons in a nice dress they are, but millions of Americans had fun in these things. They provided hope and companionship for a new generation, and they can be made to handle quite well for Detroit iron. These early ones really are pretty, very nicely proportioned. If the price doesn’t go too high, someone will have a nice old pony and a lot of blood, sweat and ultimately fun ahead.
