1967 Ford Fairlane GTA: Mid-Sized Muscle

1967-ford-fairlane-gta-project

This Fairlane project may not look like much in the photo, but the seller claims that this is an S-code GTA. If the numbers check out, that means this mid-size Ford was once fitted with a 390 cubic inch V8 that was good for 335 horsepower! With that kind of power it could easily run with the Chevelle SS396. The “GT” part of the trim designation meant power and the “A” stood for automatic. The only problem here is that the engine and transmission are long gone and someone cut a hole in the transmission tunnel for a four-speed. GTAs are frequently cloned, so you will want to do your due diligence before buying this one. Take a look here on eBay where the seller is asking $4,500. The car is located about 40 miles south of Charleston, Illinois.

A friend of mine had one of these when I was in the Air Force stationed at Little Rock AFB back in ’71.It had a 390 with a 2-speed (wide open or off)! He used to get some perverted thrill by scaring the crap out of me with that thing. No doubt, it would fly!!!

Another muscle car minus engine and transmission. I’m getting rather weary of those to tell you the truth. I realize that a lot of them were pulled for repairs then after numerous moves, parts disappeared. I’ve got a friend restoring a ’66 Cyclone GT with similar problems although most of the engine and ALL of the transmission were there. Its the little brackets and braces that are next to impossible to find. I look at this car and say that it’s a parts car or you’d have to find a parts car to get this one fixed up.
