Don’t hesitate to bid if you are interested in this solid looking 1967 International Scout pickup because the auction is close to its end. The 4WD all-purpose vehicle is listed for sale here on eBay, where bidding has already reached $9,000 and any reserve has been met. The Scout is located in Nine Mile Falls, Washington.
Unusually for a Scout, this has no rust holes. I’m sure there’s rust — I think Scouts rusted before they left the assembly lines like 1970’s Fiats — but at least there are some solid spots on the body to start with. I love the usefulness of a vehicle like this; the small bed can haul, and no one likes to scoot past those front seats to get to the uncomfortable rear ones anyway! I really appreciate that the tailgate is solid as well. I’ll bet that hitch/bumper has been used a lot over the years.
Black-painted steel wheels are perfect for this no-nonsense truck. I’m not sure about the silver, though. Or maybe it’s faded light blue? Or tan? Or white? What’s your guess?
There may not be holes in the floor, but I certainly see some rust that should be treated or cut out. The third pedal indicates a manual transmission, but we don’t know if it’s the T-14 three-speed or T-45 four-speed. Could that blue-gray be the factory color? I think so, although the dash pad doesn’t seem to coordinate. I’ll bet one of our Scout experts will be able to tell us in the comments!
I can’t tell you much about this engine apart from that it’s a V-8 and that if it’s the original one it will be a 266 cubic-inch engine. If indeed this is the original 266, this was the first year for the engine. Trivia time: did you know that a lift kit for the body was standard for Scouts with the V-8? Hey, as the ex owner of three Scouts I take offence to that comment about they “rusted before they left the assembly lines “. Scouts were no more prone to rust issues than any other SUV and in fact they might not rust as much as most others did.(later Scouts had galvanized sheet metal as a preventive measure). Still you would be hard pressed to find a more durable SUV than a Scout, especially the Scout ll . From their industrial motors that would run 200,000 miles with out breaking a sweat to Dana 44 axles front and rear and in later Scouts Dana 300 transfer cases.
No offense meant! I like Scouts, just have never found a solid enough one to purchase…
Nine mile falls is a small unincorporated community near Spokane on the northeastern side of the Cascade Mountain range. It snows a lot there in winter months but I don’t believe they salt the roads. The summers are hot and dry as that area is part of the desert. In light of all that I don’t expect there’s much serious if any rust to worry about. The floorboards are probably rusty from water sitting under rubber mats, but I doubt if it penitrates the metal.
