1967 Jaguar E-Type: Stalled Project

1967 Jaguar E-Type

I’ve recently come to the conclusion that half of the remaining classic cars out there are stalled restoration projects. We all have dreamed about undertaking a detailed restoration, but it seems many of us that actually attempt it get part way through the restoration and either lose interest, lack the time to finish, or discover what all a full restoration entails only after fully disassembling the car. While its sad to see any car scattered about a garage, these unfinished projects can actually sometime turn out to be great buys. This Jaguar E-Type might just be one of those few projects worth buying. It appears all the major restoration work has been complete, with all the mechanical systems restored. It would still be difficult to finish, but if everything is here it could be a worthwhile project. Take a look at it here on eBay in Los Angeles, California and let me know if you would tackle finishing this one? Oh and based on what’s in the background, there could be lots of extra Jaguar parts in this barn to finish this one!

I wouldn’t buy that for 4k. The last time I did something like that was 1973, my buddy and I bought a 63 xke with the motor and trans in boxes. Took us a whole summer to put it back on the road.

The starting price is a little ambitious.

Uh……sorry………this isn’t a Porsche! For THAT money? Car prices might be going kinda nuts in some areas, but not for this.

Don’t mean to be a whiner, but only 4 pictures!?! and no motor or interior shots?? Geez!?? As for the project, this would be a nice one, but that’s a pretty steep starting price! These are great cars…

I had a 67 XKE in the 90’s, they are cool cars, i’d love to get a convertible 12 cylinder to satiate the masochist inside of me.

Hoboy, guess I’d better get the E coupe on the road. No fun when they become too expensive to drive comfortably without worries….

    This price is pretty nuts.
I do know that I totally blew not purchasing a ’69 XKE roadster and a ’63 356 coupe– both drivers–during the Crash a few years ago. Price: $15k ea. At least I got to test drive them both….the Jag much much more thrilling.

I too restored a ’67 XK-E convertible from a basketcase. I think doing that once in a lifetime is enough. If the seller restores other Jags, I wonder why he wants to sell this before it’s finished?

    ambitious?? freakin NUTS!!

$49k would be high for an OTS in this condiiton. $30k spent on mechanicals? Check with JHT but last I heard you could buy a “new” (refreshed by Heritage) engine for $12k and a gearbox for $7k.

      Greetings All,

You’d have to redefine optimistic for this guy to fit the definition. Four shots showing a car enveloped in debris and stating ALL the hard work is done but there aren’t any pictures of the engine? Interior looks to be missing, sure it’s there but it would’ve been nice to see how that was being treated. Primer only means it covered something not necessarily something of quality.
My guess……..car was found and put on Ebay.
$50 large would purchase this car done to almost Concours standards, not a project.

“I restore other cars so don’t low ball ME” says he, “99 percent finished” sez he,
“Fix your own mess” sez I
50 grand. My word. Fishing for a fool

The seller loves the car so much he wants to keep it.

I just saw where a compete Series II fixed head coupe was bought in Cali for $5k. Once the fuel system was cleaned it started up. This, on the other hand, is a massive project. Worth about 4k like others have posted.
