1968 Mustang 289: Rough Runner

1968 Mustang 289

I’ve always been fairly vocal about my appreciation for the Mustang. They are good looking cars with decent handling, lots of grunt, and plenty of luxury. But as with most iconic cars, they are getting expensive, especially well optioned V8 cars. While this project that Robert R spotted here on craigslist in Ellsinore, Missouri isn’t a GT, it does have a 289 V8, A/C, power steering, and disc brakes. It also has rust and paint issues, but with an asking price of $2,500 some problems are to be expected. On the upside, parts are easy and cheap to come buy. If you are skilled with a welder and can do all the yourself, you could have a V8 pony car without having to break the bank! So would you take on this pony project?

I have been a GM man for majority of my “gear head” career. However, the lines of the Mustangs appear to age so much better than their GM and Mopar competitors. This appeared to be a very good deal but I’m judging on just one photo. I’m currently in between “cool daily drivers”, deciding which way to go. The Pony is beginning to look mighty good to me….
