When this 1969 Dodge Coronet was new, it was optioned to appeal to a drag racer. Who knows, perhaps this very car has some minor-league competition history? Now it can be yours through this eBay listing, where the seller is asking $22,000 for the privilege of (presumably) restoring this yard find. It’s located in West Monroe, Louisiana.
The seller tells us that they have been trying to buy this car for 29 years! It’s less surprising that they are selling it on after they disclose in the listing that they are a dealer. Does that look like original paint and stripes to you?
The seller tells us that they have the pristine side scoops stored separately from the car. The side scoops along with the two aggressive ones on the hood are some of the visual features that set this R/T above the normal Coronet appearance. The Track Pak (I found it spelled Pac and Pack as well while researching, but Pak seemed the most common) added a 3-54:1 Dana axle, Sure-Grip differential, dual-point distributor, heavy-duty four-speed transmission with Hurst shifter and a heavy-duty cooling system to what was already a potent car.
The third pedal is still there as well. Unfortunately, it’s no longer attached to anything, as the original engine and transmission are long gone. As a matter of fact, we now have an indeterminate V-8 and an automatic transmission powering this find. What a shame, as in order to restore the car properly, a date-correct 440 engine and manual transmission will have to be found, and they won’t be inexpensive.
Of course, “correctness” may not matter to you and you might be perfectly happy with the V-8 that’s in the car. Based on the tiny carburetor I’m guessing not, but I’ll let you folks debate that in our comment section. What would you put back in this potentially potent Pak car?
Belaboring an ongoing discussion: $22,000 for a car that is essentially a neglected hulk, with no photos of the underside. The pervasive odor inside is overpowering to all except those living in it one would think. “The dash looks complete. It needs complete restoration” because there’s no windshield! “This Car does not have any rust around the rear glass” and yet the picture of the rear glass shows otherwise.
I thought this year Coronet was a great looking car but to bring this back to a suitable starting point it’ll need to be immersed in isopropyl alcohol for a week then dipped numerous times in a vat of naval jelly, followed by a tremendous injection of cold, hard cash over some many years. Too bad!

Which by the way is NOT the worst way to spend a summer evening. I don’t mind a cold beer and a fat joint around the bonfire myself. But when it causes wild delusions about that old Mopar you’ve had for 20 years and never had two dimes to fix it up, well then it might be time to put the fire out and set the pipe down.
I love that the flipper has inspiration of getting their hands on the car to make cash .

$22K? You could, probably, go to Barrett Jackson or Mecum and get one for close to this price. If I’m not mistaken, I thought the drag pack cars came with different instrument panel with a tack. No original motor or trans and where are the original wheels?
I had a drag pak car. Mine had the round gauges with a 150MPh speedo. Something doesn’t add up here.
What, you don’t like Keystone wheels? Originals were prob steel with dog dish covers as most racers put on after market wheels anyway. The standard for a Superbee or RR was this dash, as the 318s came with, but I believe you are right, the round gauges were the standard dash. Perhaps there are exceptions, but it would be best to look into this if you are going to try and get return on investment, as this might be a fraud. The problem as always is the ridiculous price. If it was a few thousound dollar ask, then any guy or gal could wheel her into the garage and play with it for years to come. Originality be damned, just have fun fixing on it and enjoy your masterpiece. What ever happened to those times? We have lost something wonderful, can we ever get it back?

$20,000+ for a vehicle without its original power train is pretty steep. For that evaluation in its current condition it would need to be numbers matching.
I see more cars on eBay and in the marketplace advertised as “Original R/T” or “Original Hemi” but the motors and transmissions are long gone. And yet they are asking high dollar for these cars.

I am very familiar with this car. It has sit in the dirt for 30 years and the undercarriage is rotted. The car was located for years on Highway 165 in Monroe Louisiana until it was moved to Highway 139 in Swartz. That’s where it stayed until a few weeks ago I noticed it was gone.
It’s one thing to be a flipper as a facilitator, but completely another to be a fraud masking as a flipper.
And as we’ve said before, bottom feeders breed.

This seller is pretty comfortable slinging option codes and such around but not too comfortable when it comes to identifying what this hulk has for a motor, telling a 383 apart from a 440 is very simple. A child could do it. I think this Coronet is probably overpriced by about 20 K. Check out this Satellite I saw on facebook, yep it aint a GTX and it 2 years older but miles and miles nicer,,,,,,,,,

As in, if you gave me $1,000 I’d take it and give it a decent chance at being a new Kia by putting it in the crusher and sending the resultant block of steel overseas.
If this car was around a grand or 2. If I could afford it I would take it and change the frame and everything else that needs fixed. Then find a 426 hemi and 4 speed manual transmission.
For a minute I thought I was back in 1976. That’s because most of these cars looked like this. That is the truth. They were $1,500 cars that teens got their hands on. If a part failed, common, they went to Pep Boys, had to turn in a core, and off they went. Nobody worried about originality. Piece of history, but also just a parts car. Way overpriced.
