1971 Chevrolet Corvette: Can’t Take It

greencorvette_2

As someone who occasionally ponders relocation, my thoughts often ignore the important stuff (like, what will I do for a job) and focus more on how I will transport my project cars to their new abode. Priorities, right? Well, that’s not the case for everyone and the seller of this 1971 Corvette here on eBay is admitting defeat that he will never restore this car, especially with a job change demanding relocation. Unfortunately, in the time he has debated restoring it (or tried to find the time to do it), it looks like this car has suffered for the owner’s limited spare time. The frame is said to be “bad” and will need replacing; little other information is offered as to the car’s provenance, such as whether it is matching numbers or the condition of the engine. It is a manual, which is a plus, but my feeling is this ‘Vette convertible will need everything. Have you ever taken a project with you, or did you sell them before you moved?

“Sold,” says the ad. I’m hoping for far less than the $4K asking price.

Looks to me as if the best way to deal with this one would be to jack it up and slide a complete, unrusted ’74 under it. I’m no Corvette expert by any means, but this looks like, at the very best, an overpriced parts car with very few usable parts.

the picture shows it was a CE block so it was not a “born with” numbers matching. As a base small block with no power accessories it was a donor car at best.

never cease’s to amaze me what people do to their cars…why do they let them rust and rot away…these people should all be forced to drive Toyota Prius’s..

Now… Now… They were basically last years fiat, a couple were rallied successfully over here, Yugo’s nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe!!!! at least in europe. But back to topic why do people let cars stand outside without any protection?

agree why let it rot away, but I am a corvette guy I have had 6, nothing special about this one, low option car, with a bad frame from what the seller claims, for what it will cost to bring it back, you can buy one loaded! for half the cost of bring this one back. I am looking at a 71 convert fully loaded with a/c, auto, p/w, p/b, ps, for 39k totally redone and someone else did all the work. sad but this one is to far gone.

There’s a 63 vette convertable sitting in a backyard in Pa. Up untill last month I would pass it every day. Been there at least 3 decades. Word is it belonged to a family member that died and now a memorial. Personally if I died and had a car I would hope my family took care of it!.

I know of a blue roadsters in Crawford county the same way. Been sitting for years and the owner had it sitting at several other residences before that dating back over 40 years from the rumors i have heard.

Also know of a 63 split window in Crawford county that has split in half from sitting so long. Such a shame.

Saw what’s left of a 69 427 coupe that went through a fire earlier this summer.

My move to China I unfortunately had to sell off quite a few projects, among them a 1957 VW Bug, a 1964 Citroen, a 1967 Jaguar XK-E Convt, and a 1967 427 Tri Power Vette convt. And almost 30 years later when I moved back to the states, I brought all my (Chinese) projects with me, but they are mostly all BMW motorcycles.

Careful sunbeamdom my daughter drove a Yugo for close to 80,000 miles. She sold it when she had two break in’s from people to steal interior parts.

Somebody check the Guiness records. Kenzo’s daughter may have set an endurance record for Yugo’s.
