1971 Mustang Boss 351: Plus A Mach 1

1971 Ford Mustang Boss 351

When I first looked at this submission from Jim S that contained a Mustang Boss 351 I dismissed it as not being a very good deal, as the car looked rough and the seller is asking nearly $17,000 for it, but then I reread it and realized that the sale isn’t just for a Boss 351, but also a Mach 1! As you can see, the Boss is in very rough shape. While the Mach 1 isn’t in great shape, most of its sheetmetal looks solid and rust free. Between the two cars, it shouldn’t be too difficult to build one complete Boss 351. You can find this pony car duo here on eBay in Beckley, West Virginia. So would you use the Mach 1 to fix up the Boss or would you just get the Mach 1 running and drive it while you found new metal for the Boss? Special thanks to Jim for this tip!

UGH!! Cellphone pictures in “sliver” mode! I would love to have the blue Mach 1, but if I were seriously considering purcahse, I’d spend my money on one in better shape/already restored. :-)

while both are unique cars, and might even be considered ” rare” it would be for the professional restorer both need a ton of work … you can never get out of them what you put in to them . the seller is pushing how unique they are, but that doesn’t take away from the amm’t of work they need

Not being a big Mustang fan I’m surprised to discover that there was a Boss 351. I only remember ever seeing the Boss 302.

The ’71 Boss 351 was the fastest muscle car that year with it’s special 351 Cleveland. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/classicmustang/info

Seriously whats up with this site lately? Pop up ads, overlays, and now autoplay videos that freeze the screen in the middle of the page and force you to watch it? Theres other old rusty car sites that don’t do that to you. I’m not going to come here anymore if this is how it is now.

      Hi Grant,
Sorry about that, we added a special mobile navigation tool recently and it seems to have just started causing issues on both mobile and desktop versions of the site. We are currently working on the issue though and should have it resolved shortly! Again I’m sorry about that and please bear with us as we work to fix the issue.

I’m not a big fan of the NASA nosed Mustangs but IMO you couldn’t even combine the 2 cars and make a decent one because of bodywork. The Boss 351 would be worth more money when done but would cost more to repair, the Mach1 would make a nice driver and show car for a lot cheaper so it depends on your wallet and how fat it is.

*Cliff notes version of seller’s description: “This is a great vIn tag to rebuild.”

Might have been “the fastest that year” but my dads 4 door Buick special with a transplanted 465 Wildcat smoked the neighbor bully’s brother that just bought boss 351.

oh sure, one could invest a boat load of money in the Boss…………then what? That audience is getting older and the prices are heading anywhere but up.
The body style isn’t everyone’s taste.
Since leaving behind the muscle and pony car world after 30 some years, my mind is so clear.

I did a resto on a 73 coupe for my cousin a couple years ago. Very hard cars tp find parts for. The boss would be more valuable in the long run. Havectead the boss 351 is one of the fastest mustangs built.
