1971 Plymouth Duster 340: Outta Barn Look

1971-duster-340

The seller of this 1971 Plymouth Duster 340 states that it has that “right-out-of-the-barn” look but that it could be driven anywhere. That might be the case, but their asking price of $16k has me questioning the value of that “look”. They claim that the paint is mostly original and that they have added many new parts including a 360 under the hood. Luckily, the original 340 block is included. So, do you think the scruffy exterior is worth a premium or would you keep looking for something restored at that price? Find it here on craigslist out of Lewistown, Pennsylvania. Thanks goes to Robert R for the tip!

I think the price is high. But I’ve been seeing people asking big money lately for barn finds. Ive watched some of those chasing classic cars episodes where those barn finds go for rediculas money.

Hello, I’ve screwed up my nice car and don’t have the skills or money to fix it. Please pay me extra. p.s. – The parts I trashed are in a plastic bag in the trunk.

Hahahaha! The “original 340 block” has a hole from the rod that went through it, but no big deal.

IMO that’s too much money for a Duster that doesn’t have the original motor installed and running in the car. These cars were not that popular as musclecars because of the timing. That paint doesn’t look all that original to me, way too clean and bright unless he spent days buffing it out. Just my 2 cents.

‘Mostly original paint’ except for the rattle can lime green paint in the interior, engine bay, trunk, rear quarter panels, and anywhere else I happened to spray after those 6 beers last Friday night.

It’s got that ‘Right-Out-Of-The -Barn look’ Yep, in my experience 9 out of 10 cars that have just come right out of the barn are the same shade of lime green as this Duster.

Well, at least that’s what I thought I remembered after those 6 beers.

Don’t pay attention to the little damage here and there… Or care about the 360 swapped in. And stopping is for wussies, you don’t need power brakes!

Now quite as outrageously priced as the Mach 1, but still pretty far out there….

I’d say the paint looks original, except maybe the hood and like Dolphin sez, the rattle can stuff. There’s too many blemishes and marks for it to be a respray. I never comment on the price, none of my business, but looks like a fun car.

It’s still a little out of my budget but I think it’s a far better bet than the white one that’s for sale without the engine. Dusters are fun cars. But there is a limit as to how much the fun costs.
