1972 Buick Riviera: Original Survivor

left

This 1972 Buick Riviera was stored since 1997. It’s said to have 53,000 miles (documentation?) and no rust. It appears to be an original survivor, but you never know from pictures alone. The seller has done the usual mechanical stuff, brakes, belts, hoses, thermostat and such, and says it runs really nice. There have been several nice Rivieras lately, and this one looks like it could be really nice as well, especially the interior. One wonders, though, why there are no pictures of the right side. It’s in Asheboro, NC and listed here on craigslist for $15,000. That’s a really high asking price, of course (a stray “1” between the “$” and the “5” perhaps?) What do you think it could possibly be worth if it actually is really nice? This is perhaps a condition 3 car at best with a value of about $9000. His asking is above a condition 2 car and this Riviera is nowhere near that nice. If it is as nice as it looks, do you think it might be possible to detail this Riviera up to condition 2 level without major restoration work?

That car isn’t even worth $9k the price for that car should be around $5000-$6000. I’ve got a 71 and that is fully restored and $15,000 would be the price I would get for mine.

The speedometer is over 70 miles per hour. In park? The park indicator is shiffted too far to the left! I wonder if the speedo and the millage played with. Some rust arround the hood area the type i hate most between joints. Ya i see no more than 6k.

@ Patrol That is not the speedo needle , it is a speed warning device that you can set at any speed to ” Buzz ” when the car hits that speed

Although I like Rivs, this vintage is not that collectible nor valuable. Car is ok but he is a “dreamer”. Did they legalize marijuana in NC? Guess I’ll wait for a ’65 GS w/dual quads.

Yah……that price is pretty much pie-in-the-sky. Having said that, these are some splendid road cars. Plenty of juice. And ’71, ’72 Buick 455’s had strengthened bottom ends producing some very stout torque…which Buick motors ALWAYS had IN SPADES!
Probably why their air cleaner decals actually stated respective engine torque instead of cubic inches. Sometimes (& unfairly) perceived as a modern day Edsel, if you had one, you had a class car w/a class ride.

Ugh. Miss my ’71 but five words explain why anyone should be hesitant, reticent & wary at any price; timing chain water pump combo.
