1972 Ford Ranchero Squire: Buy Here, Pay Here

ranchero1

It’s not every day you see a conventional used car dealer posting a desert-find classic for sale – especially when there aren’t any deserts nearby! This 1972 Ford Ranchero Squire popped up here on craigslist for $3,000 at a late-model car dealer in Atlanta. Said to be largely rust-free with just surface areas to contend with, it has only 90,000 miles on the original 351 Q-Code Cobra Jet engine. This is an interesting combo of the Squire package’s more luxurious appearance with the upgraded performance of the Q-Code drivetrain. However, this generation was part of the era that saw performance numbers start to sag, so it wasn’t quite the rocket ship it once was. Still, for an alternative to buying an increasingly-expensive domestic pick-up truck, this looks like a fun project to me!

looks like it has the wrong dia. wheels on it. make the dealer an offer and use it for a lightduty truck. this is what a $300 backlot last row vehicle looked like” back in the day”. make it safe and see how much life the vehicle has left in it. nice find

jim s – agreed, those wheels simply do not look right for that vehicle. Great start to a driver – mere fact it has that era Cleveland that still breaths is a bonus. Had I the garage space and time to get there, I’d be looking to adding it to collection. Hope someone salvages it and brings it back to daily use.

Me and a friend bought this car, not long ago, from Mitch Simpsons. Rest assured that it is in good hands, and we are currently working on restoring it.

Looks like a solid, er, car, under the mange and decomposing wood decals and fiberglass overlays. Big bonus — this was the last year beofre the Fed-mandated “safety” bumpers, those lovely chrome-plated railroad ties hung at both ends that did little more than add a bunch of weight and cost a lot more to repair.

Strangely enough the ad further states ” a cash discount price of $4800.00″. Hmmm.
