1972 Pontiac LeMans Sport 350 Convertible Project

Convertibles used to be a popular option in the 1960s and 1970s. GM stopped producing convertibles in the mid-1970s and they are not as popular today as they once were. This 1972 Pontiac LeMans Sport Convertible is a running project. It is located in Denver, North Carolina, and is listed here on eBay with only a few days remaining in the auction. The seller has the car listed at a Buy It Now Price of $7,300 but there is also an option to make an offer. I find the Buy It Now Offer on eBay an interesting dilemma. I assume the Buy It Now offer establishes a high end but why would anyone select this option if they can make a lower offer and negotiate a deal?

The powerplant under the hood is a Pontiac 350 cubic inch V8 engine. It is equipped with factory air conditioning and the car is said to retain its original drivetrain. However, the original carburetor is missing. If this is an M Code 350 cubic inch V8 engine it would have been rated at 175 horsepower. The engine is backed by GM’s durable Turbo 350 3-speed automatic transmission. The primary concern on this car is the amount of rust it has.

The interior is in poor condition except for the console lid! The dash is faded and cracked and the seats are completely sun-baked. Whenever I see an interior like this, I remember looking at torn seats and when I sat in it, the foam was wet which instantly soaked into my jeans! The car will need new door panels as they appear to be missing also.

There were approximately 3,500 LeMans convertibles built in 1972. The car is being sold by a dealer. The car is riding on factory Rally II wheels and white wall tires. It is a shame that this car was not ordered with the T41 option which gave it a GTO Endura nose, fenders, and Ram Air Hood. I own a 1972 GTO and think that is one of the best-looking A bodies of the early 1970s because of the nose and aggressive scoops.

Someone’s going to need a hazmat suit to strip that interior.

Looks like it was stored outside uncovered. Nice.

Not worth the energy. all it has going for itself is the convertible top ..

Lots of pictures. Seller not hiding anything. Frame looks okay but this is a frame-off restoration job. Better have some good body-bumping skills. NIce car when done, but you better do the work yourself if you want to stay above water. Personally, I prefer the 66-67 version of the LeMans, but this could be a nice car to tool around in as well. Lotta work. It can’t have spent its life in Denver, NC. That’s near Lake Norman and while hilly, it’s not exactly heavy salt country.

Every piece of metal on this car will need to be replaced or repaired. Same with the interior. There is a car exactly the same as this one that you can buy in FL and start enjoying it the same day. Save a lot of time and headaches. Unless you do all the labor yourself your going to have way to much money in this thing.
