1973 BMW 2000 Touring: Found In Germany

bmw2002touring

This 1973 BMW 2000 Touring here on eBay was discovered in a German barn and shipped overseas as a restoration candidate. The seller is a European workshop of sorts, so they specialize in sourcing the rare parts and cars that fans of vintage BMWs love. Of course, they also likely know a profitable car when they see one and haven’t gone over-the-top in their reconditioning efforts, but this Touring does have a freshly lowered suspension and some basic tune-up/fluid changes already completed. It doesn’t appear too rusty, and these hatch-style 2002 siblings greatly enhance the versatility of classic car ownership. I don’t see too much I’d change here, but I wish the seller included a few photos of the car in as-found condition – that’s the best part of the story! These variants don’t come up too often, but one of the last ones I spotted was listed for $14,900 and that included shipping from Belgium. This isn’t a terrible price but I might go a touch lower with some of the unknowns that remain.

    It’s already sold for $ 10,000.

I remember these cars very well, dressed in orange the 1802’s starred as sort of ‘safety’ or ‘accident-support’ cars on the (F1) Circuit Park Zandvoort.

Always disliked the rear looks of the Touring. Spoils the 02’s classic good looks.

Ditto Jason on the Touring design.

And like my Wife’s newer Volvo wagon, why don’t the rear seats fold completely flat, like the old American wagons? We had a ’67 Ford Ranch Wagon, and I swear you could carry a 4X8 sheet of plywood in the back of that thing.

Sold at $10K in about a day. The Touring version of the 2002 isn’t my favorite shape, but they are very rare, especially over here, so the only thing that surprises me about this sale is that it was sold so cheap. This seller is the kind of guy we almost never see on here anymore: reasonable, with an ability to write a clear, honest description with no hard sell.

The car looks vary solid top and bottom. It needs trim, bumper, and interior work, which will cost a bit, plus paint. Also a rear transmission seal if the seller hasn’t already done it.

The 2002s are appreciating, the early round taillight cars the most, so this round light car is definitely an appreciating classic. The buyer should be very happy, and I’m guessing that he might be celebrating with some of Munich’s finest brew about now.
