1973 Ford Bronco 302 4×4 Project

This 1973 Ford Bronco is being sold at no reserve and with three days left in the auction, the bid price has risen to a respectable $6,300. Located in Roanoke, Virginia, the Bronco is a U15 model that is equipped with a 302 cubic inch V8 engine. The auction and additional pictures can be seen here on eBay. The odometer is said to read 100,026 miles on this maroon 4WD truck which was originally painted Wimbledon White from the factory.

The Ford 302 cubic inch V8 engine is backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission and is equipped with power steering. The seller discloses that the engine was likely replaced at some time in its life. The first year for the power steering option in the Bronco was 1973. The seller has a Marti report that shows the U15 option, original color, and the 2 barrel equipped 5.0-liter engine. The rear axle ratio from the factory was 3.50 to 1. The Bronco left the factory with skid plates, bodyside molding, and an AM radio.

The parchment colored interior is rough and shows its age over the past 47 years. The Bronco is uncut and originally sold in Pearisburg, Virginia. The engine will turn over but is not running. The body is rough with patches showing in the rockers, tailgate, and door jams. The original steel rims were replaced with a late model Ford OEM wheel but the originals go with the sale of the Bronco.

The exterior rust damage makes you wonder about what you cannot see but the seller states that the frame is solid. I would imagine that the floorboards and the rear tailgate area will need repair. As you know, Broncos are the hot item now with the coming reintroduction of the Bronco by Ford next year. The glass looks good all the way around but the truck is going to need a full restoration to be a safe and dependable driver. The seller offers delivery if you are within a 50-mile radius.

When I saw “Roanoke”,that caught my eye,as I live in the area.
I would definitely want to check for rust on the underside,as you see
a lot of pickups here with the wheel wells rusted through.

‘good bones’ here…? “lots more started with less”? (I did)…But
Why the “T Handled” x-fer case shifter where a “J” should be?
    No aux gas tank?

The early ’73s still had t-shift transfer cases – up until about Nov ’72 production or thereabouts.

If it runs and drives at this price I don’t think it would be a waste of time!! However there is plenty of work to do and I’m sure the price will rise!!

When I worked at a Ford Dealership in Ithaca, NY in the 1970’s , we replaced several Bronco bodies. Ford had a “rust” program back then. They would replace or repair rust on Ford vehicles for free or low cost to the owner. Some vehicles Ford would even “Buy back” (especially Pintos). I had the rear quarters and a front fender replaced on my 75 F250 SC for $44.
“Roanoke” also caught my eye as we are near Stuart when in Virginia.

I’ve past this thing a bunch of times since he rolled it out front. And I’ve said “I know he’s just waiting on me to come offer him some cash”.
