1974 Corvette Greenwood: Nose-Less

Corvette1

We’ve recently had a run of oddball Corvettes, most recently with Jamie’s writeup of a breadvan Corvette that included some wild bodywork and t-top roof. Well, if you fancy yourself a van-tastic Corvette of your own but want some room for customization, look no further than this Greenwood Corvette here on eBay to see if you’re up to the task.

You may be thinking, “Hey, this doesn’t look too bad.” Just buff the paint and find some door panels, then give the car a serious cleaning. I wish it were that simple. Still, while we’re on the subject of the interior, the driver’s seat looks far more faded than the passenger seat and the automatic is a bummer. The seller does say the door panels are included in the sale, and the car came from the factory with lots of power options and a telescopic wheel.

Now, are you beginning to see where this becomes a project? The front clip and engine are long gone, and what I can’t tell is whether they were removed due to an accident or for swapping to another car. There are some very rough edges on the fronts of both doors which looks like impact damage to me, but I am not a bodyshop expert. What do you think caused it?

The seller thinks this is a genuine Greenwood car, due to looking the same as the others and the seller owning other Greenwood-equipped vehicles. However, I’m not sure that’s enough for me. As Jamie’s post points out, there are lots of these cars running around with different variations of the kits, so the detective work will be up to you. Bids open at $200 – will you be trying to win this custom Corvette?

Looks to me like somebody tried to make this look like an 82 Anniversary Edition Corvette, those stripes on the doors are the same as that model and color looks similar too.

Quite the bizarre mix. CE edition panels on the outside (well, at least the paint and decals) on a ’74 interior. Run, don’t walk… no telling what’s hiding on that frame and birdcage. Or.. pull what’s left of the rear clip with the wagon graft and put it on a known good roller.

These ‘Breadvans’ are the only iteration of this Corvette body style that I like. And I like them a lot. Not sure I’d take one on as a project, though there are advantages in doing so. If you have a specific idea in your head you aren’t paying extra for paint or a drive train that you don’t want.

I’d argue the last one makes more sense as the parts car. Individually some of those parts might appeal to someone. Collectively it was a disaster.

looking at the doors, I would say some serious front end damage. would want it put on a frame machine before purchase, since if the frame is bad it is almost a lost cause, moneywise. I do like the roofline, and a front clip is readily available in the after market. drop in an LS1 and a 5 or 6 speed to have some fun. could it be a salvage title? I don’t know, but may be very difficult to get a clean title for it.

Looks like the start of something good to me. The shooting brake ‘Vettes of this era are more appealing to me than an unaltered version. As somebody else commented a crate engine and 6 speed would make for a lively driver. If the frame is straight the body damage doesn’t mean much to me personally. I’ve had several salvage title vehicles that I wouldn’t have been able to afford if not for the lower price due to the salvage brand on the title. The last one I bought came from CT but ended up at a dealer in TN. When I titled it in NC the title came back without the salvage brand so I feel that many vehicles out there sold with ‘clean’ titles have been totalled by an insurance company but have lost the salvage brand somewhere along the line.

Price is right, but it would be a lot of work and quite cool when done.it is not my cup of tea but it does look salvageable.

I would totally take it on. Frames and front clips are cheap, an $500 5.3 LS would give better power than the original engine, and anything from a 6.0 up would be great fun…..I’d go with a stock front end, if the frame is bad, maybe a C5/6 conversion is in order.

Someone needs to install a 4WD chassis on it and call it a Blazer II. Sheeeeesh

There is a Derek Motor Cars sticker on the rear bumper. That is a used car dealership that specializes in imports, classics, and musclecars. I’m not sure if they have other dealerships, but the only one I know of is in Ft. Wayne, IN. I wonder if someone could contact them via email or phone and see if they have any information on this. Not my cup of tea, but I’d be willing to bet SOMEONE is looking at this thinking, “I’ve GOTTA have this…”.

Wow! It never fails to surprise me the range of comments pro and con for each vehicle! In my mind, as soon as I looked at the pics, I thought “crusher material” and ASS U MED that the comments would run in that vein. Instead, most are positive and look towards putting this thing back on the road. While others that, I have thought of as “realistic projects”, have been shot to pieces in the comments!!
That is one, of many, things that I like about this site!!!
Thanks guys for all you do and I look forward to 2016!!!!!!!!
